Just Games Retro (Oct 01, 2006)
I played the VGA remake immediately after finishing the original Police Quest, for the intentional reason of being able to make direct comparisons. If you want a better idea of what has been changed, it's worth reading the original review before continuing here. If you've sworn off EGA graphics and text parsers long ago, then you can jump right in to the VGA version. Jim Walls' story remains identical to the original, with no added scenes, no cuts, and a direct mirror of the events from the first.
Pelit (Jul, 1992)
Suosittelen.
The remake of Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel is welcomed by this adventure gamer ever since I have tinkered with the original release. The original version is a demanding game, with a typed command interface that uses keyboard arrows to make the game characters move on screen. I cannot count the times I have mistakenly reached for my mouse only to remember that it is of no use then. When the enhanced VGA edition of the game lights up my screen that uses a multifunctional cursor I smile to myself and think, “now I can relax and get involved in this game.” Most of you simply do not realize how technology has advanced in adventure gaming until you have experienced playing one of the oldies.
Play Time (Feb, 1993)
Adventure Gamers (Oct 12, 2007)
Police Quest 1 is a delightful throwback for nostalgia nerds, to a time when this sort of dramatic content was new ground for games and an adventure could make a kid want to be a police officer when he grows up. Twenty years later, both the original and the remake are still fun and easy to play, and required playing for adventure game historians.
Aventura y Cía (May 18, 2004)
A Force for Good (Sep, 2005)
Police Quest isn't the greatest of adventures; It's a little short, the ending is somewhat anticlimatic and there's not much in the way of real puzzle solving. Still, it's pretty solid fare and a decent story to enjoy. Nothing especially gripping, but entertaining for a while.
