Game.EXE (Sep, 1997)
That aside, the game ran flawlessly, the layout of the office and the battlefields efficient, and most of all, was a lot of fun to play. Real-time fans who look forward to the extra challenge of simple financial management will enjoy this well-made and entertaining title. Bottom Line: Another real-time strategy game, this time with profit being an important aspect, overkill will cost you. Confusing interface while not in battles, and the manual less than helpful. A lot of fun to play, very satisfying.
Game Revolution (Nov, 2002)
I generally liked War Inc. The novelty of creating totally new units gave me a great degree of freedom and the ability to experiment. The business aspect of the game meant that gains (or losses) from one mission are carried over to the next, And the division of each mission into several objectives help make the game seem more realistic. I found War Inc. to be quite fun to play, and I enjoyed the sleek interface, but I was a little annoyed that garbage pixels sometimes cluttered the screen. All in all, War Inc. is a much-needed burst of fresh air in the stagnating genre of real-time strategy games.
PC Gamer (Dec, 1997)
If you can muddle through, you'll probably become at least mildly addicted to War, Inc. Its elements are nicely balanced, and the campaigns offer a wide variety of settings and goals. Don't expect a push-over AI, either; this one is murderous and tends to ambush your strike forces or launch surprise raids. In sum: there's nothing really new or different here, but the classic ingredients of the genre have been well mixed. It's still spaghetti sauce, but it's savory stuff.
War, Inc. tiptoed on the fence between average and below average. In the end, the score averages out to 3 stars, but the game probably sits somewhere in between 2.5 and 3 stars. After I had played the game for a good long while, I found myself asking, “So who’s going to want to play this game?” The answer is, I don’t know. Maybe gamers who want to mix the strategy involved in combat with some macro-management issues, like finances and such. If you are not the type of player that has a lot of patience, then I would warn you against getting War, Inc. It takes a long while before the action starts coming with any regularity. Plus, even when you do get lots of missions, the action itself just doesn’t match up to other games on the market.
Gamezilla (1997)
In case I haven't quite beaten this point to death, all of War Inc's problems lie with the mechanical design of the tactical game. If one could cross Close Combat and the maniacal violence of Earth 2140 with the superb strategic management of War Inc. you would truly have the future of computer warfare. As it stands, if you want a single-player strategic study of great longevity, and you can hack a number of substantial problems, certainly consider this entry: campaign management is its forte. Even with the shortcomings War Inc. has a few pleasant surprises in store for those who purchase it. Just be forewarned when you get to the battles... the rating given is in accordance with the title's originality and strategic attempts, and that's all the quality you`re going to get. Look to better games for a proper treatment of combat.
PC Joker (Sep, 1998)
GameSpot (Sep 30, 1997)
There's a lot to like in War Inc., which looks like Jagged Alliance crossed with Command & Conquer and Capitalism. The premise puts you in charge of a private security force that performs "services" for major corporations. Each element of your corporation is under your control: investments, research, designing and building units, selecting freelance jobs, creating a grand strategy, and fighting the battle itself.
WAR INC. tries hard to be a cross between X-COM and COMMAND & CONQUER, but the weak combat system brings toe whole game down. Without C&C's hard-edged personality or X-COM's immersive tension, there's little to recommend here.
Gameplay (Benelux) (Jul 01, 1998)
