Mega Fun (Jul, 2000)

Overall, Nightmare Creatures 2 needs a little something more than what it delivers. Looks like gore just wasn't good enough in this case.
However, this game is for a mature audience looking for a gruesome bloodfest, and it delivers. I give Nightmare Creatures 2, 3 1/2 GiN Gems. I based my rating on Resident Evil 2, a game I thoroughly enjoyed. Nightmare is Resident Evils little brother. They got the right idea, it just isn't executed as well. I have not solved this game yet, and I have some aggression to work out, so I'm going back in. Heads will roll.
Yawn. Turn over, close your eyes and snore. It's a fair to middling dream for Dreamcast.

GameSpot (Jun 20, 2000)
As it stands, Nightmare Creatures 2 is a good idea fumbling over itself to be better. The visuals are good but repetitive. Levels are realistic and full of secrets, but there's nothing to break up the monotony. The game's fighting system is adequate, but tainted by endless one-on-one forced battles. If there's one saving grace, it's that the plot payoff later in the game is a masterwork of storytelling. If Soul Reaver, Blue Stinger, and Code Veronica have left you hungry for 3D adventure, Nightmare Creatures 2 should satisfy your hunger. If you're not a fan of the genre, it may just leave a sour taste in your mouth.
The Video Game Critic (Sep 25, 2000)
It lacks technique and gets pretty repetitive. Most of the combat is of the button-mashing variety, and you are forced to perform fatalities whether you want to or not. The rumble pack is supported, but it tends to be either off or running at full rattle. It got so annoying I turned it off. There's another problem that I've also encountered in other games: When given the choice of Continue or Quit, you can't tell which color is the "select" color. Despite its flaws, Nightmare Creatures still delivers its share of creepy arcade action.
IGN (Jun 12, 2000)
The production as a whole almost seems like an afterthought from the PlayStation version, like someone at Konami, Kalisto or Universal said "Wow, that Dreamcast is selling well - quickly, recompile this thing for Dreamcast making use of these tools my friends at Bleem have developed for the upcoming Bleemcast." Not only is this a low point for Dreamcast graphics, but it feels like it was rushed out the door, what with the occasional freeze-ups and a few other presentation issues.
Planet Dreamcast (Sep 17, 2000)
Nightmare Creatures II is a rough sketch of a game that never quite reaches maturity. It has its winning qualities, but the many under-developed and unpolished facets draw your attention far, far away. NCII also fails in the technical arena, completely neglecting to take advantage of the Dreamcast's capabilities. As such, I can't recommend this game as anything more than a lesson in how NOT to port a Playstation title to the Dreamcast. Avoid.
If you enjoy unplayable games or are some kind of whacked mental patient that can enjoy this storyline, you may find something here to like. There's not a game on the console that has ever looked this bad or has had to load this much. It's is an unplayable disaster that should have never been released. Amazingly, two other consoles were recipients of this junk. PS One and Nintendo 64 owners be forewarned.

Awful graphics, poor gameplay, dodgy fight sequences, constant cut-scenes and unwelcome levitation ability. Be afraid…
