Defunct Games (Aug 08, 2004)
Even though Gran Turismo 3 may be the most in depth racer on the market, San Francisco Rush 2049 is by far the most addictive. Without a doubt San Francisco Rush 2049 not only redefines arcade racing games, but it rewrites the books on what you can and cannot do. This Dreamcast port brings everything you loved about the arcade game, and gives you so much more.
Gaming Target (Dec 05, 2000)
Really good racing game and very fun, go out and buy it if you want a good time. If you buy one racing game this year, buy Test Drive: Le Mans. But if you buy two, buy San Francisco Rush 2049, its one helluva game!
Overall, this is a beautiful game that is also a blast to play. Forget the serious stuff. San Francisco Rush 2049 brings the fun back to arcade gaming.
IGN UK (Sep 07, 2000)
Problems aside, the Dreamcast version is hands-down the best version available - even killing the arcade version in looks, playability, and sheer lasting play. Every mode in this game is also in four-player splitscreen mode - and not a bit of fun is lost in the reduced screen. Don't pick up Rush 2049 because it's a racer - you'd be missing the entire point. Rush 2049 is all about vehicular action, and this game has it in spades and is done extremely well.

Gaming Age (Nov 10, 2000)
San Francisco Rush was an absurdly fun racing/stunt title when it was released a few years back, and instead of falling into the trap of rehashing with a few new cars and tracks each year, Midway and, Atari Games have been able to renovate their series to get with the times. San Francisco Rush 2049 is easily the best installment yet with slick and fast visuals, an awsome multiplayer mode and an enormous amount of modes, tracks and secrets to explore. You'll be playing this one for a while to come.
Gamer's Pulse (May 08, 2001)
At first glance, this game would seem to be no different from any of the other countless generic franchises and tired sequels cluttering up store shelves today; something to keep little Billy entertained for a few hours, and not much else. However, those who automatically lump San Francisco Rush 2049 into this category will find themselves missing out on a surprisingly addictive little arcade racer whose lifespan actually manages to exceed that of your average mayfly. Though it's not "3-games-in-1" by any stretch of the imagination, Rush's vastly different modes and insane sense of speed offer a little something for everyone, no matter what type of gamer you may be. Whether you're looking for a change of pace from lengthy RPG's, or just enjoy playing video games with friends, San Francisco Rush definitely warrants a closer look. Just don't expect the thrills to be, you know, stimulating or anything.
The Video Game Critic (Nov 08, 2000)
This is racing the way I like it - pure arcade action! Forget realism, I want simple controls, fantastic tracks, and gravity-defying gameplay. Rush 2049 delivers all of that and more. It's the kind of racer you can just turn on and have fun immediately. The futuristic graphics allow for wild road designs full of shortcuts and ramps, but I wasn't as impressed with the graphics as much as I thought I'd be.
GameSpot (Sep 06, 2000)
It need not be repeated that Rush 2049 is quite an arcade racer. With a multitude of elements that let it transcend that narrow and often underrated genre, racing fans and those simply seeking a wild, entertaining experience would do well to check it out.
This is easily the best home version of the series so far on any console. Rock solid gameplay coupled with some amazing graphics make this one of the better second generation Dreamcast games so far. Definitely one to pick up ASAP unless you have no interest in racing games whatsoever.
Mega Fun (Oct, 2000)
