I call this the RPGers RPG. If you like getting items and collecting things, as well as a very strategic and challenging system, check this one out.

I liked Time Stalkers better than Evolution mainly because of gameplay -- so get Time Stalkers first, then Evolution. It's nice to see that Climax continues to provide Sega gamers with great RPG fun. Time Stalkers is Sega's first RPG for the American market. Since it's a dungeon/RPG, it'll be a good prelude to the real deal -- that being the impending arrival of Phantasy Star Online, Eternal Arcadia, and Grandia II.

This game is solid, but perpetually mediocre. There isn’t anything that I can say was great in this game and there is only one thing that really sucks (the camera problem when fighting in doorways). If you are looking for something that even looks like an RPG for the Dreamcast, then you will probably want to buy this game. But I’d still rent it first...

Though Time Stalkers most certainly has it's faults, it's also a very enjoyeable game to play as well as a very addictive one. It is a game that you would want to talk over, just to try another strategy, and maybe even another ending. Though the game concentrates a lot on dungeon crawling, the time spent between these dungeons are chock full of incredibly detailed story and evolving characters. The time you spend outside of those dungeons learning about the people of the worlds is sometimes invaluable to the dungeons within. You'll have to pardon me now for cutting this short, but I still have 2 monsters I need to track down and capture....

Ultimately, I prefer Evolution over Time Stalkers, mostly for reasons of aesthetics and character, but I'll hazard that Time Stalkers is a more interesting game to play, and could sit comfortably next to Evolution in any gamer's library. Climax Entertainment has delivered a very playable and fun random dungeon game, but this genre continues to leave me a little cold.
Dreamcast's promise of innovative gaming experiences is certainly fulfilled with Time Stalkers. However, such a jarring departure from the norm may leave some gamers longing for simpler times.

With its atrocious game design, poor execution, and lackluster visuals, Time Stalkers carries the dubious distinction of being the worst game that I've ever reviewed. I'm a big Climax fan, and I still can't recommend this to anyone, even Climax fanatics.

Und in diesem Punkt liegt neben der schwachen grafischen Darstellung und den Mager-Sound-Effekten der dickste Hund begraben: Aufleveln und den Charakter hegen und pflegen (welcher RPGler steht denn da nicht drauf?) bringt rein gar nix - null. niente! Sobald ihr nämlich einen Dungeon wieder verlasst, werden euer Level und alle erlernten Fähigkeiten wieder auf Level 1 heruntergesetzt, und ihr musst im nächsten Dungeon wieder von vorne beginnen. Der einzige Sinn, die ganzen Labyrinthe abzugrasen, besteht also nur darin, Items zu horten und die lahme Story weiter zu pushen - das war‘s. Auch die zehn VM-Spiele und das primitive Zeichenprogramm (ihr könnt eure Bilder dann in der Galerie ausstellen) machen da nicht mehr viel wett.

With the technical aspects done well, a unique plot concept, solid music and a memorable gameplay scheme altogether, Time Stalkers is one that many cult RPG players will find worth the trip.
Så alla Dreamcast-ägare som hoppats på att Time Stalkers skulle få dem att glömma brt hur mycket de längtar efter Phantasy Star Online har anledning att vara besvikna. För att inte tala om de som förväntade sig ett äventyr i samma klass som Land Stalker. De kan verkligen känna sig blåsta på konfekten.

Une performance insuffisante pour persuader les accros des RPG purs et durs. La réalisation et le gameplay de ce titre semblent l'handicaper plutôt que de le tirer vers le haut, alors que l'ensemble paraît véritablement alléchant avant d'être mis à l'épreuve.

Podsumowując Time Stalkers na Segę Dreamcast nie bez powodu jest najtańszym dostępnym na nią jRPGiem. Pomimo kilku dobrych pomysłów wyraźnie widać że całość nie została do końca przemyślana, zabrakło czasu na poprawienie licznych małych ale irytujących błędów a twórcom nie wystarczyło wyobraźni aby opowiedzieć ciekawą historię. Naprawdę szkoda bo gra miała pewien potencjał, może nie żeby być hitem ale żeby stać się dobrym tytułem a tak po spotkaniu pozostaje rozczarowanie i niesmak. Nie polecam, ale jeśli macie ochotę zobaczyć jakiegoś RPG na Dreamcaście, możecie zaryzykować, przez jakieś dwie godziny było całkiem fajnie.

An und für sich bin ich ja schon ein begeisterter Jäger und Sammler - somit würde das Einfangen von immer stärkeren Gegnern schon Spaß machen. Es ist mir allerdings unverständlich, wie man einen Charakter nach Beendigung einer Quest wieder zurückstufen kann. Worin liegt dann der Sinn des Spiels? Kein Aufleveln, kein Freudentaumel bei einem gelernten Spell, kein Horten von wichtigen Items. Aber vielleicht liegt's ja an mir - Pokéfreaks haben eventuell durchaus ihre Freude am Monsterfangen. So richtig empfehlen kann ich Time Stalkers aber dennoch niemandem.

Because the game has so many problems, you really must wonder how it was in development for so long without someone sitting down and saying, Wow, this game isn't fun or good to look at! Sega would've been better off with no RPG at all than to come out with just Time Stalkers. Those looking for their 128-bit RPG fix would be advised to pretend Time Stalkers never existed and turn their gaze toward the vastly superior Evolution until Eternal Arcadia, Grandia II, and Phantasy Star Online are released.
Time Stalkers does boast a host of good VMU games and an interesting weapon systems— but in the end, it's little more than a stop-over in the wait for Eternal Arcadia, Shenmue and Grandia II.

Time Slakers est un Dungeon-RPG qui innove mais souffre de cruels défauts... Climax nous avait habitué à bien mieux dans le temps :( . Mais si vous êtes fan du genre, il reste un jeu atypique intéressant à découvrir.

Sega would've been better off with no role-playing game at all than to come out with just Time Stalkers. If your looking for a Dreamcast role-playing game pick up something like Evolution, Grandia 2, or Skies of Arcadia.

Time Stalkers is a very weak start to Sega's Dreamcast line of RPG's, and you wouldn't know it's from the company that once published Panzer Dragoon Saga and the Phantasy Star series. The game is mediocre and just plain screwed in too many ways to count. There are a lot of new ideas, but none of them turn into rewarding gameplay, leading one to wonder if Climax actually tried playtesting their creation before release. Further, the parallels to Evolution are uncanny and not particularly welcome, considering the quality (or lack thereof) of that title. In short, Time Stalkers is a muddled mess of a game that's not worth your time, unless you're someone who's satisfied by merely watching stat numbers go up repeatedly. And then... back down. Blah.
Sadly, the highest profile Dreamcast RPG yet slips into the same sad pattern of mediocrity which has plagued the system since it's introduction. An imaginative storyline and impressive aural presentation are offset by lackluster graphics and sheer uninspired gameplay.

Dreamcast doesn't have many RPGs right now -- Time Stalkers is one of them. Even with the sparse selection of RPGs, Dreamcast owners can do better than this confused effort. Try the Evolution series, or better yet wait for Grandia II or Skies Of Arcadia. Landstalker fans might get a kick out of playing as their beloved Nigel, but everyone else should play Time Stalkers at their own risk.
