We might be looking at Fighting Game of the Year here. A couple minor glitches aside, UFC has the markings of a true winner. Right off of E3, I swore I'd give UFC a perfect 5 GiN Gem rating because of how I was blown away with it. I'm still keeping my word, because UFC did what many other games failed to do, deliver through all the hype. In fact, once again this is one of those select few titles that should get a 6 GiN Gem rating, but our reviews limit it to just 5. Oh well. Crave, consider the 6th GiN Gem on me!

Overall, UFC successfully merges the ease of play you'd expect from a fighting game with the simulation aspects of a sports game. UFC purists may find a few nagging aspects that aren't true to the sport (for instance, in real life, fighters that wear shoes aren't allowed to kick, but that rule is ignored in the game), but the sacrifices that were made improve the gameplay by a great deal. Fans of wrestling or fighting games should definitely enjoy the game.
The Next Level (USA) (Oct 15, 2000)
Overall, for Crave's first super-hyped killer app, they do a phenomenal job of making good on their claims. Rather than toss off some shoddy, UFC-licensed product, Crave Entertainent whipped up a fun, complex, and most importantly, innovative fighter that at long last takes fighting games out of the fantasy land they've been encapsulated in for so, so long.

Better than the original Tekken, more entertaining than the shelves of fantasy fighters out there and a darn sight more approachable to boot. Everything you could want in a fighting game on the Dreamcast.

Absoluter Kauftipp!!!
Gaming Target (Nov 06, 2000)
Ultimate Fighting Championship will definitely win over most, but it's not for everyone. With it's realistic play mechanics and brutal gameplay, some may find it too hard or just too damn offensive. But for those open-minded gamers (bless your souls!) who like anything that's good, UFC is definitely a good investment.

Defunct Games (Mar 25, 2006)
This is a pretty good game if you are into that sort of thing. The grapple systems difficulty is a major flaw, but if you dedicate yourself than you will be able to win out. Not that anyone will care, making it a terrible waste of time. But this is about self-satisfaction right? Oh yeah, one last thing: that UFC logo is REALLY CREEPY!
All in all, UFC is not a terrible game as it's realism is unparalleled. Unfortunately, it just doesn't translate well into a video game. Players expect long matches and are used to a more frenzied style of fighting and UFC simply can't keep up. It almost feels like you're being cheated once the match is over.
Planet Dreamcast (May 30, 2000)
Going into UFC blind was, I think, a success. As awful a game as WWF Attitude was, I found myself still playing it because I got to play Mick Foley. My fandom got in the way of admitting it was a lame game. Not so here. With UFC, I experienced a sub-par game with great graphics and a main menu that you get to see a whole lot of.
The Video Game Critic (Jan 28, 2010)
The violence is minimal, save for some flying red squares which apparently are meant to represent blood. Perhaps the most annoying aspect of the game is how you can land a series of successive blows, yet a single punch from your adversary can bring the entire match to an abrupt conclusion. UFC has a learning curve, but if you stick with it, you'll discover a lot of replay value. The career mode is surprisingly deep and modern games could really take a lesson from its user-friendly menu system. Ultimate Fighting Champion won't appeal to everyone, but UFC fans will find a lot to like.
