DropTeam has a good selection of unique features that makes it stand out as a multiplayer vehicle-oriented shooter. I've reviewed other tank-heavy combat games (Think Tanks and Battle Carry) and DropTeam is far and away the best, and can even compete on some levels with the likes of Battlefield 2. The graphics and sound may not be up to the level of higher budget games, but the smoke effects and silent space maps are distinctive. The game features an impressive list of varied armor to use, appealing to all kinds of players. Smaller additions like minimap targeting and commander support contribute to the overall excellent feel of the game. DropTeam could use some more game modes, a better single player campaign, and improved strategic AI, but maybe someone in the community will use the MOD tools and create some.

Drop Team was released some time ago and developers already think about an expansion pack to turn the game's capabilities to a World War II theme that Battlefront.com greatly appreciates. Instead of chasing add-ons I would suggest TBG Software take another look at the title and improve what they already have. Successful games aim to please as many players as possible, yet I'm afraid Drop Team fun is highly situational. Both concept and implementation sustain cheap results that would primarily appeal to war-game fans but less to anyone else.

Though a tutorial mode is sorely needed for beginners, DropTeam gives seasoned strategy veterans some realistic battlefield gaming—set on the surface of other planets.

In the fifteen years that I’ve been playing computer games, I have never played such an over-marketed and poorly conceived game. Graphically, DropTeam is several years behind the curve, and the audio seems to be designed to make players unplug their speakers. All of Battlefront’s talk about refined gameplay falls far, far short of the mark. When all is said and done, you can talk about sophisticated gameplay, precise damage models, and dynamic effects until you’re blue in the face, but if the game isn’t fun—you’ve failed. With that said, I strongly recommend that users avoid this game. It would be extremely difficult to spend your time and money on something worse.
