PlayStationPlaystation Illustrated (Dec, 2002)
This plotline unfolds in the background, determining what you're trying to achieve, but usually it's a mad dash down a curvy country road to get from here to there in time, without being caught by the local police authorities who have decided you're the sole reason anything goes wrong in Hazzard County. Now, it might just be me, by I forgot if I was describing the plot of the game or the television series...

So, all in all Dukes of Hazard: The Race for Home is an exceptional title with a few minor mistakes here and there. But in overall the game shines with great gameplay, smooth graphics and excellent voice acting that almost makes you feel like the cats of the show reunited and have made an extra episode just for you.

I like this game. If you liked the tv show, you'll like this game. It's nostalgic. It's not the best racing game ever, but it is less sterile than some of the other F1 type racing games. Some of the terrain repeats from mission to mission to incorporate the storyline of Hazzard county into it. You almost start to learn the layout of the county. The missions for the most part are quick and could be used as a quick break from the real world. Everyone needs a quick break from the real world. That is why you are here.

PlayStationAll Game Guide (1999)
In my collection of PlayStation discs, I have most of the Arcade classics collections that are being put out by the likes of Williams, Atari and other companies that were big in the early 1980s. Playing Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede and other games from my impressionable youth is a blast. I got a similar retro thrill evading cop cars and bad guys while jumping ramps, smashing cars and driving down dirt roads in this game. Whenever I executed a good move or used a power-up, I found myself honking the General Lee's horn, which, just like in the show, plays a few notes of Dixieland. Dukes of Hazzard: Racing For Home definitely brought to fore my inner 11-year-old.

When I first heard about the possibility of a Dukes of Hazzard game I thought – Yeah it’s bound to be amazing. For a while (while the novelty of the game was still in tact) I thought it was quite good. I suppose it still is, to a level. The only complaint that I have with the game is that a lot of the levels seem to look alike, and that ends up increasing my boredom to such a level where I just end up turning it off. Don’t get me wrong the missions are all totally different, it’s just that same stretch of road seems to be used quite a lot.

Like I said at the start, this "racing adventure" is a lot of racing and a little adventure. The game plays out like an episode, and for those old enough to be nostalgic, it offers a hearty dose of Duke lore. Of course, the real appeal is to get behind the wheel of the General Lee once and for all. The title succeeds in capturing the look and feel of the television series, but for those unfamiliar, it will probably be a waste of time. The missions can get tedious, even though some are truly challenging. The stunt physics are fun and the various vehicles are a hoot. All in all, it is a decent ride while it lasts, which will vary in proportion to how much you enjoyed the TV show.

Overall, if you are a fan of the Dukes television show, this game is certainly worth a rent. For a few fleeting moments, you’ll enjoy being behind the wheel of the Lee, racing along the dirt roads of Hazzard County proper, where goofy cops always end up flying into ponds and men named ‘Cooter’ are auto mechanics. If you are looking to plop a hard earned $50 on the counter at your local game store, please heed my advice and use that money for a racing game that will keep you entertained longer, like Gran Turismo 2.

PlayStationGaming Age (Sep, 2004)
Dukes of Hazzard definitely isn't a bad game, but there are better racing games out there that are worth more worth your money. Fans of the series will likely have more appreciation for the game than others, but gamers looking for something new might also find some enjoyment being "modern day Robin Hoods" in this average, thought refreshingly good TV show themed racer.

WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Aug, 2000)

PlayStationGameSpot (Dec 27, 1999)
The development of this game switched hands only a few months before its release, and after playing the game at length, you really get the impression that the game was handed to the new development team with the instructions, "Make sure it doesn't lock up so we can ship it before the holidays." With more polish this could have been a fun little driving game. But as it stands, Dukes of Hazzard: Racing For Home is way too buggy and way too easy to be fun for long. It's likely that you'll be able to finish this game in one rental period, but if you're a big fan of the series, you should probably just buy the game anyway.

You know, I wanted to like this game. It’s got a great opening sequence and some amusing videos between missions, but the gameplay itself is the weakest that I’ve ever played on a Playstation. In fact, there are games on the Commodore 64 that are better than this. Some of you out there may share fond memories of the Dukes of Hazzard. That’s all right, catch a rerun on TNN. Really want to play the game? Do your wallet a favor and rent it. I guarantee you that after one night of playing, no one will want to buy this game. Besides, after two hours, you should finish this game.

PlayStationPSM (Feb, 2000)
On top of control issues, Dukes of Hazzard suffers from some major bugs, such as analog control randomly shutting off between levels and allowing your car to fall through the ground after particularly spectacular jumps. Still, the game is worth a rental for sentimental value, but you wouldn't want to own it. Too bad. The Duke boys deserve a better game than this.

WindowsAdrenaline Vault, The (AVault) (Sep 19, 2000)
If you did not ever watch -- or did not like -- the original Dukes of Hazzard television show, there is absolutely no reason to consider purchasing this product. The Dukes of Hazzard looks very much like a crude console port, as a PlayStation version preceded the PC version with little difference except in the multiplayer realm. None of the needed adjustments were made for different input devices, screen resolutions, and the like that personal computer users have come to expect in every release. When you watch the introduction to the game, a voice announces that "time tends to stand still" in Hazzard County; and it is clear that when it comes to meeting the latest computer gaming standards, time unfortunately stood way too still for the developer and publisher of this release.

It's a shame the license was wasted like this, as DOH (hee hee...) really could have made for a fabulous game. But instead you're left with a dull, ugly, shallow, unfunny and stupidly easy game. Someone may very well try to tell me that the whole point of Dukes of Hazzard was its light-hearted relief and it's not supposed to be taken seriously... but when you're paying money for a video game it's a whole different ball park, and throwing caution to the wind (perhaps substitute "caution" for "content", in this case) to the expense of genuine entertainment just doesn't cut it, y'all.

WindowsGamekult (Aug 08, 2000)

Soon, it all falls to pieces. All you get to do is slither unrealistically along Georgia’s dirt roads, in a series of terribly easy missions with barely perceptible variations from level to level. Ram this car until it stops. Beat this car to the finish line. The main focus of the game, the General Lee, is just horrible too, so shaky and ill-defined that it looks like it’s made out of sand. And just wait until you see ‘Luke’ appear from the ‘window’ to fire his ‘arrows’. If you hadn’t paid for it, it would be laughable.

WindowsDaily Radar (2000)
Unfortunately, this game is about as much fun as having toenails removed with a pair of pliers. The control is haphazard at best, and the preconfigured layout screams "console port." While some console games have made a smooth transition to the PC -- Metal Gear Solid comes to mind -- bad console games make worse PC games. DOH: Racing for Home (how convenient that it abbreviates to "D'oh!") is such a game. Crap controls, horribly cheating AI and absolutely ridiculous repetition are the strong points in this title. The low points are more than six feet under.

Ah beg yer pardon, but I must retire to my courtroom...Roscoe should be back soon with them cantankerous cousins any minute now, and you can bet all the oil in Texas that they ain't gonna weasel their way outta' this one. Yeeeeeehaw, my foot!

WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW) (Dec, 2000)
Rather than engage in the debate of why this game was made in the first place, let’s just take a look at what makes it suck. First, it’s a PlayStation port. and a very bad one to boot. The graphics engine is atrocious, with glaring seams between polygons, low-res textures, and chunky framerates that put it on a par with anything pro-NEED FOR SPEED. On top of that, the missions are extremely repetitive (just like episodes of the show), and usually offer nothing more than getting from point A to point B while either ramming someone or evading the cops. Plus, you only get to bust out your dynamite-equipped arrows once! All these country bumpkins seem to do is deliver mortgages and get mistaken for bad guys. Garsh, will those old Duke boys ever quit? God, I hope so.

Well, like my dentist told me when he got a new, high-speed drill - "It hurts like a bitch, but at least it's over fast." The average mission takes about 3 minutes, followed by a few minutes of cutscene. Including watching the episode on tape (no commercials), I was done with the game and the review in less than 4 hours. Replayability - zero. Welcome to the discount rack, contents: Dukes.
