Description

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?: 3rd Edition is a DVD game for up to four players. It's based on the familiar formula of the TV show and is hosted by Chris Tarrant. It is similar to the game Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Family Entertainment Edition. Both games claim 1500 new questions including, for the first time, 400 new picture-based questions and a new feature adult of junior questions.

However, unlike Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Family Entertainment Edition, this game sticks closer to the traditional TV format - for example there are no question categories to choose from.
The game starts by asking how many players there are, it then asks which players are adult and which are junior. From then on the players are asked questions alternately and the basic rules of the game are unchanged. Fifteen questions stand between each player and a virtual one million pounds, there is no time limit to any of the questions. Each question is multiple choice with four possible answers. Each correct answer takes the player closer towards the jackpot and there are two "guarantee points", one at £1,000 and one at £32,000, which means an incorrect answer after these milestones have been passed doesn't cost the player everything. The picture questions don't appear until after the £1,000 guarantee point has been passed.

The player has the three usual lifelines, 'Ask The Audience', '50-50', and 'Phone A Friend'. With the last option the player is shown a picture of three people together with a brief description such as; 'Susan, Age: 62, Interests: Housework, On-line Gambling, Anime'. They select their 'friend' and then hear a faux 'phone call which may or may not help. As with some of the other games in this series a live audience has been used, they show in the introduction when Chris Tarrant, some background shots and when the player uses their 'Ask The Audience' lifeline.

When the game is over Chris Tarrant doesn't pop up saying 'Congratulations Player X!', instead the game show the players' scores and provides a link back to the start of the game which displays 'Game Over' on the way.

If the player completed all fifteen questions correctly they received on-screen instructions for a phone-text competition where the prize was a trip to Paris.
