Rise of Kunark is the fourth main expansion pack for EverQuest II. It focuses on the continent of Kunark, introduced in EverQuest: The Ruins of Kunark, but set 500 years later. When players arrive, they discover there is a war going on between the Iksar Empire and the other inhabitants of Kunark. The giants are being pushed to the north, while the Sarnak, the new playable race in this expansion, are pushed towards the west.
The Sarnak were previously presented as NPCs. Those are still here, but there are also enhanced creatures that fight back against the Iksar Empire. Players joining the new race are able to level in all-new areas, as well as the lands of the Desert of Flames, Kingdom of Sky and Echoes of Faydwer expansions before joining the main war. There are various new zones, leading to the endgame content of the main game, with most of the content focused on areas for players between the levels of 65 and 80 (new max cap).
Next to the new race and the new zones, there is a new starting area, new weapons, armour and items. Future updates are announced to contain epic weapons, of which there are 24 types to collect.
