Fable III pushes the idea of the second game that little bit further, challenging players to prove their worth as a ruler. But not only that gives you a great deal of freedom on how you do it making it an even more engrossing experience that is hard to put down once the story and world of Albion grabs you.

'Fable III' might not be the ultimate edition of Fable that 'Peter Molyneux' had in mind, but it is a shining example of a masterfully made action adventure game. While some of the goofy mechanics and silly quests don't exactly match up with the dreary narrative, its charm will win you over. From a pure entertainment standpoint 'Fable III' more then delivers. 'Fable III' might not bring in any new fans. However, the 3.5 million gamers who played 'Fable II' will be satisfied.

Fable III is a beautiful addition to an already loved franchise, and while it does scale back on a lot of things in favor of a more straightforward presentation, it still manages to captivates gamers through its critical decision-making element. You many not sprout horns or angel wings, but you can almost feel the repercussions of each decision you make on your journey. It’s a wonderful tale that is illustrated phenomenally in every pixel from start to finish.

Xbox 360Computer and Video Games (CVG) (Oct 26, 2010)
Ultimately, our complaints are mostly 'wants' rather than genuine game flaws - and we can say with utmost confidence that this is the best Fable yet. It's entertaining, thoughtful and crucially, not entirely for RPG lovers - which could lead to the series capturing an entirely new audience of adventurers. But be warned: Make the wrong choices and there's no going back. Just like us, you too could be left feeling like your potential as ruler hasn't been fulfilled when the all-too-sudden credits roll around.

There may be shortcomings in some depth and a few character lags while others may be bothered at the easy combat. But innovative touches like the Sanctuary make it stand out more and in the end, you get a game that’s truly a fun epic, which is something worth paying homage to.

Xbox 360GamingTrend (Oct 25, 2010)
Overall, this is a game that’ll grab you and not let you go until you’ve finished it. There’s always a quest sitting in your journal, a citizen that needs to be talked to, money to be made, jobs to be run, buildings to repair, or any number of things to keep you playing.

There are problems, yes, but in a nutshell Fable III is a flawed diamond, and it's one that shines pretty bloody bright as a fun, unique twist on RPG traditions of old. It seems by testing the player's ability to keep promises, Lionhead has been able to keep a few old promises of their own.

Xbox 360The Telegraph (Oct 27, 2010)
For all its faults and a clumsily handled denouement, Fable III is heavy on the fairydust, charming you enough to forgive such foibles, drawing you back into its wonderful world. So maybe true to form, there are a few unfulfilled promises, but there's that bewitching dose of all-important magic.

Xbox 360Multiplayer.it (Oct 26, 2010)

Although Fable III's streamlined approach to the traditional Fable concept might feel a little odd to franchise veterans at first, this iteration is every bit as engaging and rewarding as its predecessors. Moreso, in fact, given that Lionhead's subtle but deeply effective changes to character and world interaction add such a tangible sense of attachment. Big, clever and funny, you'll rarely have enjoyed going through such punishing emotional torment.

Despite the uninspired combat system Fable 3 still ranks among the best titles available on 360. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for in warmth, humour and fun. A wonderful cast, setting and plot make it a hugely entertaining game that most players will fall instantly in love with.

Xbox 360GameFocus (Oct 27, 2010)
Essentially, Fable III is a much improved version of Fable II. It’s more contoured, better balanced, and a lot more focused on experiencing the main storyline. However, to accomplish this, it did end up sacrificing some of the randomness that we could play around in. The options are all still there, but it doesn’t feel as independent of the primary journey as it did in Fable II. Not that this is necessarily a negative. The story Lionhead crafted is loads better than anything they’ve done before. We venture all around Albion, drumming up support, making political promises and meeting familiar faces all in an effort to overthrow Logan. That covers the first two-thirds of the game. The last third gets a bit more interesting, but I’ll leave that for you to discover. Finally, the shift of having all the side activities point back at the main story really drives home the concept of “experience”. And isn’t that exactly what we’ve been asking for in games like this? I know I have been.

Xbox 360Official XBox Magazine (Oct 26, 2010)
Fable III is most memorable not because it makes you laugh, but because it also makes you care. If a spouse gets carved up in your absence, you'll feel pangs of guilt. When your dog saves your bacon during a fight, you'll feel pride. Even after a couple dozen hours spent saving your land, you still won't be in a hurry to leave it.

Xbox 360Eurogamer.pt (Nov 02, 2010)

Xbox 360gamrReview (Oct 25, 2010)
Fable III is the peak of a franchise that has made both many advancements and missteps, but ultimately a lot of fans. It is a game that is built on evolution rather than revolution, but is expertly, and clearly lovingly, crafted. A great amount of humor, customization, and variety makes for a game that may not be difficult, but is undeniably a lot of fun. If you dislike the Fable formula, this will not change your mind, but if you have yet to give the franchise a try, this is the time to jump in. This may finally be the Fable you’ve been waiting for, but please, let’s have more John Cleese next time.

Xbox 360D+PAD Magazine (Oct 31, 2010)
As a game, it is far from perfect and there is much to criticise; be it numerous bugs, the dull minigames, the hit and miss humour, the sometimes dire facial animation or the fact that there are as many restrictions placed on you as there are opportunities to act freely. Under normal circumstances, this list of issues would be damning, but Fable III still manages to be something very special; most significantly it gets as close to being all things to all men as we’ve ever seen. All at once it is accessible, deep, beautiful, exciting, cerebral, frustrating, annoying, challenging, charming, mediocre, violent, family-friendly and touching, to name just a few adjectives that spring to mind. To be more succinct, Fable III is a beautiful mess, and for a game that attempts to capture the complexities of what it means to be human, maybe that’s entirely fitting.

Xbox 360TotalVideoGames (TVG) (Oct 26, 2010)
Somewhat fittingly, this is the Fable to rule them all. Its revolutionary themes complement the series' trademark gameplay style exceedingly well, bringing a murkier side to crucial player choices that make impending decisions all the more engaging. It's still an RPG for the masses, but then it was always going to be really. The question is, can you keep the masses happy as ruler of Albion?

From raising a family, becoming a land baron, and even partnering up with friends locally or online, this is the most fully realized version of Albion yet. It’s a must-play for fans of adventure or anyone who thinks they can run things better than those bums in Washington. Good luck.

Xbox 360GameTrailers (Oct 27, 2010)
It's easy to recommend Fable III to anyone who enjoyed the second game. It's very similar, but the story is stronger, the decisions you make have more gravity, the coop is vastly improved, and the design forces you to sample everything the game has to offer. It's a brief experience for those who choose to follow the bread crumb trail, but there's still no other game like it and it's worth the effort to find out what kind of ruler you will be.

Xbox 360Spazio Games (Oct 26, 2010)

Xbox 360XboxAchievements (Oct 25, 2010)
Fable III is pretty much everything you’d want from a Fable sequel: more of the same and then some. There are certainly a few gambles from Lionhead this year, with some paying off and others not so much, but at the crux of it, it’s pretty sublime. No other game on the market contains the unique British humour that is on offer here and with a stunning cast of characters and an engaging story, with the enviable task of ruler to look forward to; Fable III pretty much delivers on most of Lionhead’s promises. I did say most.

It’s a shame that the game isn’t more polished, as frequent technical issues mar the experience, but these hiccups shouldn’t deter fantasy fans from a purchase. It’s a deeply engrossing game with a memorable story, beautiful design, tons of customization, legitimately funny writing, and simple, but fun combat. If I’m not mistaken, that’s pretty much what Fable is supposed to be.

Xbox 360Lazygamer (Nov 01, 2010)
Overall this is a good game. It has moved a bit further away from your traditional RPG with its new additions and changes, but much of the game play is still like the previous installments of the saga. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of options concerning the character interactions and sensitivity based decisions for most of the game. Fable 3 has a couple of bugs here and there, and is not the most challenging game ever. What it does have in its corner though is an exciting storyline that keeps you captivated, beautiful presentation and above all else it is good fun.

Xbox 360Xboxdynasty (XD) (Oct 26, 2010)

Xbox 360Planet Xbox 360 (Oct 26, 2010)
In the midst of all this multi-console stuff, Fable III is hitting store shelves only on the Xbox 360, a worthwhile follow-up to Lionhead Studios’ previous Fable game. It impresses just as much as that game, with a whopping amount of customization, side quests and other goods to keep you venturing through Albion well into the new year.

Windows4Players.de (May 26, 2011)

WindowsGames Aktuell (May 17, 2011)

WindowsMeristation (May 17, 2011)

Xbox 360Console Monster (Nov 11, 2010)
Fable III, as with the games before it, reaches for the stars with its ambitions, and for the most part manages to achieve them, even though the finale is somewhat weak. The down side is Fable III has been very much dumbed down, even more so than Fable II. It’s still a fun and enjoyable ride with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, but the game is definitely more adventure than RPG, and you can’t help but feel that Lionhead Studios have gone a little too far with the simplification. This doesn’t stop the game from being enchanting though, so whatever your taste in RPGs, you’re likely to come away with a smile on your face after stepping in to the world of Albion.

Xbox 360GamingExcellence (Nov 08, 2010)
Fable III is a fun, interesting and amusing game to play with some excellent replay value. You can play it more than just once or twice to try a variety of different strategies, upgrade different weapons and just plain have fun trying to find everything there is to track down in Albion. Have fun listening to the dialogue and comments made by the people around you and enjoy the landscaping. The main handicaps to this game are the major, obnoxious glitches and the annoying combat. I can only hope that some fixes are already in the works for the glitches and as for the combat, just be prepared to grit your teeth and work your way through it if you're looking to play this game.
85
Xbox 360Impulse Gamer (Nov, 2010)
Although the game can easily be completed in under 20 hours, if you engage in all the side quests in Fable, you could easily stretch it out to 25 hours or more, depending on your micro-management skills. If you enjoyed the original games, you will enjoy the latest title in the trilogy and fortunately newcomers can jump straight into it. There are some glitches in terms of graphics and of course the convoluted menu system but thankfully because the game is so fun to play, this should pose no issues to the majority of gamers. It would have been nice if you could explore your dark side more in Fable III but let’s face it, most games generally target the good and Fable III is no exception to the rule. With a fun and over the top story that is oozing with comedy, this is the perfect game to get lost in for a few weeks. Recommended!

While there are annoyances, they aren’t deal-breakers. What instead stays with the player is the fantastic setting, awesome quests, cool customisation that develops as the player progresses, and unusual gameplay.

Xbox 360Hooked Gamers (Nov 03, 2010)
Overall, Fable III takes a few good steps forward for the franchise in some areas while at the same time taking a few back in others. The game is a rewarding and entertaining adventure but doesn’t quite live up to the standards promised for it. This is no reason to dislike it though as it has much to offer to fans as well as newcomers. Although it is questionable whether or not, in an attempt to make it a more universal game for all types of players, Lionhead sold out its hardcore fans and RPG followers. So if you’re looking for a deep, moving, stats infested RPG, then stick with Fallout 3, where as if you want a fun, easy going game with some nice touches, then pick up Fable III.

Xbox 360Vandal Online (Oct 26, 2010)

Xbox 3601UP (Oct 25, 2010)
Of the trilogy, Fable 2 still proudly stands as the apex -- a magnanimous leap over its predecessor and as one of the best games on Xbox 360. Fable 3 almost eclipses it, but it stumbles along the way, and alternates between, "it's Fable 2, but better" and, "it's not as good as Fable 2." Nonetheless, Fable 3 is even simpler than its predecessor while remaining utterly and distinctly charming when compared to the rest of the 360's library -- it just isn't quite as magical as Fable 2.

Well, not that hard I suppose. It would have been nice to see consistency in the detail, and the big ideas supported by more well thought out design. Nonetheless, genuinely funny games remain few and far between these days, and the laughs Fable III will inevitably bring you are worth the flaws and failings. Heck, it's worth it just to seduce the castle's lesbian servant girl. Talk about a hot cliche.

Xbox 360IGN UK (Oct 28, 2010)
For all its now familiar faults, there’s still plenty of enjoyment to be had in this third iteration of the Fable franchise. More so than ever before it’s the game’s unrivalled charm and meticulously constructed world that makes the sprawl of Albion such a unique pleasure to explore. In many ways too it’s a more robust outing this time, with bolder quest design and a more focussed sense of purpose. It’s sad then that Lionhead’s slavish dedication to accessibility has been so detrimental to the series’ greatest strengths beyond the main story arc. Ruthless streamlining of combat, character progression and world interaction has largely removed any real incentive to dabble in Albion’s extra-curricular endeavours. And, sadly, that all-too-readily exposes Fable III's thoroughly charming, frequently enjoyable but overly simplistic RPG core.

Xbox 360The Guardian (Oct 26, 2010)
Despite these concerns it is hard not to get sucked into Fable 3. The combination of gaming styles – action, role-playing and strategy – works wonderfully together and there are some real consequences to your decisions. It may be too accessible for hardcore RPG fans but Fable 3 is hugely enjoyable and the perfect game to play on a cold winter's evening.

WindowsThe Guardian (May 16, 2011)
Despite all the niggles, Fable 3 aspires to greatness and finds it surprisingly often. There's a superb music score, deep (if formulaic) gameplay and literally hours of inventive storytelling played out by likes of John Cleese and Stephen Fry. If the series continues to develop at this pace, it will one day rival the mighty Final Fantasy ... just not quite yet.

Fable III is not bad, mind. The game is competently made, and features all the things you’d expect from a Fable title: “moral” choices, in-depth character development, oodles of places to go and things to kill, and a conga line of NPCs straight out of fantasy-RPG central casting. If you want access to all the limited-edition content in one fell swoop, it ships bundled with the PC version by default, so you don’t have to go downloading a lot of DLC. But definitely think about getting an Xbox 360 controller before you wade into this adventure.

It’s not Lionhead at their most inventive, but Fable III is a great game with a well realised world. Much like Fable II though, this third iteration brings changes to the game of which will be divisive to those that played the previous entry in the series. With that said, it seems as if the Fable series is never going to be a series to please everyone, but whoever said that everyone needs pleasing all the time?

Fable III is both as close to what Peter Molyneaux originally promised, and the most far off. While I thoroughly enjoyed Fable 3’s imaginative and engrossing plot (and subsequent twists) along with its revised gameplay and core mechanics, as a whole package I simply didn’t feel it was an epic in tale or scale that Fable 2 showed us. I wouldn’t take that as too big of a knock against Fable 3, and I can safely recommend it without worry. Those that enjoy the Fable series will find a new tale here to enjoy for a few dozen hours but here’s to hoping that Fable 4 will finally have an online mode that will keep the game in my system for months as opposed to weeks while keeping my interest.

This is gaming with a capital F, for fun. Don't expect the bosses to take three days to take down. The battles are never challenging, but it's not about the grind, it's about enjoying yourself every step of the way. Kudos to Lionhead for changing things up for Fable III. I just wish that the Queen section of the game was longer, so that I could have tinkered with my decisions. I guess all that's left for me to do is play it all again and see if I can make a better job of being ruler the second time around.

Xbox 360RPGamer (Nov 09, 2010)
Like its predecessors, Fable III manages to improve upon the last title while simultaneously falling short on the new elements it brings to the table. This seems to be becoming the Fable legacy, but regardless of any incidental quirks or minor irritations the game has, the terrific writing, excellent humor, and simple, enjoyable gameplay all make Fable III a terrific experience. Like the previous games, Fable III is quite easy, and will likely take most players between twenty and thirty hours to complete, though there's a lot of content and equipment hidden away for players to discover, along with over a hundred collectibles to track down. Fable III is yet another step forward for the series, but it still has plenty of room to expand.

Xbox 360Gameplanet (Oct 27, 2010)
Once again, we're faced with a sequel to a well established franchise that gradually nudges the series forward in a safe, controlled manner. There's no real innovation, rather a consolidation of central tenants found in Fable II mixed with an updated interface and a story that doesn't end happily ever after. There's a lot to like about Albion. There's some genuinely entertaining quests, whether or not you choose to do them in a chicken suit is irrelevant, the humour is persistent and engaging throughout. Those expecting a quantum leap forward in this release will be disappointed, however the multitudes of people eagerly anticipating the kind of clever twists and darkly humorous social commentary Lionhead excel in will not come away empty handed. The trip to Albion is well worth the price of admission.

Xbox 360Video Games Daily (Oct 26, 2010)
Fable III is a sanded-down Fable II with fewer raw numbers, an even more biting wit and a coronet dangling uneasily from one corner. As an exercise in giving shape to the ego of the person playing it, it’s second to none, but as an attempt to pitch players into the conflicts and compromises of statesmanship, it could use a bit of work.
80
Xbox 360MS Xbox World (Oct 26, 2010)
Fable III is a worthy entry into the series as a defiantly polished and well organized familiar experience which is almost verbatim of its predecessor . However, a lack of identity and a dipping of fingers in many pies offers a disjointed experience that should have been developed and evolved more in game number 3. In some ways, we're taking a step back, with stripped features and some of the old issues still being prevalent. The fact that there's day one additional content to purchase from the Live Marketplace, goes to show that the sports game comparisons are well justified. For those of you looking to rekindle the Fable flame and get online and have digital babies, then there's plenty to sink your teeth into. You'll feel right at home with what's on offer, and be glad to make decisions for the greater good. It's an entertaining ride, and one that has the legs to keep you hooked from humble beginnings to royal conclusion.

Jen s lepší grafikou, pokud to utáhne váš stroj. Včetně všech kladů i záporů. Proto dávám i stejné hodnocení.

A to hlavně díky všudypřítomnému humoru. A bez problémů si mě hra udržela do pozdních nočních až ranních hodin. Pokud máte hlavu otevřenou novým netradičním nápadům, pak by vás Fable III nemělo zklamat.

Xbox 360Eurogamer.net (UK) (Oct 26, 2010)
It may be messy and clunky from time to time along the way, but Fable III is only guilty of indulging its designers' whim at the expense of necessary polish, and in the royal scheme of things it's a crime you're happy to pardon. Many more RPGs will follow between now and whatever Lionhead does next with the series, but few if any will possess half as much heart, and most importantly, whatever else they have to offer, none will have Albion.

Xbox 360videogamer.com (Oct 26, 2010)
Molyneux's fervent quest for accessibility might alienate some core gamers, but even the most cynical of critics would struggle to suppress a smile while playing Fable III. To enjoy a game to this extent despite so many flaws only serves to show how utterly compelling adventuring in Albion can be.

WindowsgamrReview (May 17, 2011)
Fable III is a great game, and can be a lot of fun for those who let it be. This is as true of the PC version as with the 360 version, but there are a number of unacceptable issues. For a port so late, you would expect it to at least run nearly as well, if not better, than the Xbox 360 version, but the game is incredibly buggy, and it would be nice if the game were better optimized for the system in general. This, combined with the very poor mouse and keyboard controls, makes the port feel awkward and rushed. In addition, even with some extra content, the fact that it’s at full price 7 months late is disappointing. It’s easy to recommend the PC version of Fable III for franchise fans, but not over the 360 version.

Xbox 360NZGamer (Oct 27, 2010)
Fable III is a massive game targeted directly at those who like their open worlds anchored by a plot which they can get into without getting swallowed. Like I said, the path from revolutionary to King is only half (or not even half) of the experience in Fable III. Once you’re there, you’ll have tough decisions to make as you run your kingdom either as a benevolent and logical leader or even more tyrannical prick than your brother. Lionhead once again throw their arms open as wide as the incredible expanse of Albion and say, “I dunno, what do you reckon?”

PC Fable III is clearly the superior when it comes to the Xbox 360 version, if you’ve the Windows machine to match its requirements. The keyboard and mouse are embraced with the game’s notifications and cues adapting on the fly to whether you’re using them or if you’ve stuck with an Xbox 360 controller for Windows. I hope Lionhead and Microsoft will be keeping any future Fable action adventuring closer together when hitting consoles and PC. I thoroughly enjoyed going back to Albion and can’t wait for more from Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios.

So it's not all doom and gloom. This is by no means a bad game. It does some new things, some of it works, some it needs more work, but you will (we hope) enjoy playing through this game at least once. Ultimately, (and since Peter has already said this isn't being limited to a trilogy), the Fable franchise is building up to something epic. Maybe with Fable IV, or Fable V, but if Lionhead keep innovating but also keep perfecting, eventually they will create that game that lives up to everything we ever dreamed it could. In the mean time, enjoy the road that will lead to that gaming revolution, just keep in mind that it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Understone Quest Pack.

Fable 3 is the best Fable yet. It's mature and thought provoking, with a final act that will genuinely surprise and confound you. It could've been a masterpiece, but its many technical problems bring it down.

Xbox 360Joystiq (Oct 26, 2010)
If you were concerned that Lionhead's mandate to streamline the game was at odds with how much content you managed to extract out of Fable 2, you may have been right. Fable 3 doesn't strive to introduce new mechanics but is instead pre-occupied with fixing and streamlining existing ones. But if Fable 2's unwieldy menus kept you from much of the amazing content that game had to offer, you're going to like what Lionhead's built for you. While it's puzzling to watch so much effort go into streamlining Fable 2's already superb design without fixing its obvious technical shortcomings, try not to let that distract you from what remains an exceptional game. It may not be revolutionary, but it is royally fun.

Xbox 360GamePro (US) (Oct 26, 2010)
Fable III is the better game when held up against the glitchy, twitchy gameplay of its predecessor, Fable II, but the heavy-handed moral of the game's story may leave a bad taste in your mouth.

Xbox 360Gamer.nl (Oct 27, 2010)
79
Xbox 360Gaming Target (Nov 29, 2010)
Fable III isn’t a bad game, but neither is it a step forward for the franchise. The nasty bugs, the sluggish and uninspired story, and lack of difficulty make it the least enjoyable of the series. Unlike the previous editions, where I immediately started a brand new game as soon as I finished the campaign, I can’t say I’m that motivated to do a second playthrough of Fable III. If you’re a fan, you’ll probably like it but will have more fun replaying I or II instead.
79
WindowsWorth Playing (May 17, 2011)
While the porting process didn't harm the game, Fable III has a solid yet decidedly dated core. Combat is fun but has a slew of issues that detract from what it otherwise could have been, and that's a sentiment that could just as easily to be applied to most of the game. Fable III is a good game that is worth diving into, and you'll end up having a great time right up to the conclusion. At the same time, it feels like a game that tries to do too many great things and just settles on being decent instead.
78
Xbox 360ActionTrip (Dec 01, 2010)
Fable 3 is definitely a beautiful-looking game, with incredibly imaginative and well-designed locations where players may lose themselves in. The trouble is that Fable no longer knows what it is. It's not a traditional RPG, that's for sure. Meanwhile, as an action game it feels bland and underdeveloped, given the repetitive nature of the combat mechanics. And yet, the sweet irony of it is that thanks to its classic Fable-style ambience, great music, lovely visuals and excellent voice acting, players will most likely be immersed after completing their first quest. It's just that with a developer like Lionhead, we expected more than just an average hack'n'slasher with oversimplified gameplay mechanics.

WindowsGames Finder (Sep 24, 2013)
Fable III reinvents a lot from the series but unfortunately misses the mark on too many of these overhauls that the game loses much of the original charm and doesn’t gain much of anything. This won’t affect players new to the series but Fable fans will probably be disappointed.

Xbox 360Lens of Truth (Jun 19, 2011)
Fable 3 was a big title for the 360, but did fall short of expectations. Yes it is a good game, but there are many flaws that shouldn’t be there (especially for a console exclusive game). The combat system is watered down and the targeting system is sketchy as a whole at best. While some of the side quests are both amusing and ridiculous, they are all short and leave you wanting something more. Furthermore the final part of the game is a rushed mess that will lead many to a rather bad ending if they aren’t careful. The overall plot was good however and the game is indeed fun for the most part, but without that decent online this game would be sub-par at best. Regardless of all this however, when you look at everything Fable 3 offers as a whole, this titles still receives a respectable score in the end.

With a little more polish, Fable III could have been a great game, but it fails to live up to its potential. Instead, it’s good, but disappointing.

WindowsInside Gaming (May 18, 2011)
Fable III is a fascinating mishmash of concepts that don’t always mesh well. The experimental story elements are distilled down to a series of binary decisions, the open-world adventuring is smattered with drudgery, and the PC experience is implicitly derailed by a game that’s top-down designed for a controller (which is less of an issue if you don’t mind using one). This makes Fable III incredibly hard to pigeonhole or summarize. I can at least say that I loved the visuals, laughed at a lot of the dialogue, and had fun most of the time I played. I expect you’ll do the same.

I'm a fan of this series and despite Fable III's flaws, I love the series no less after playing this entry. If you've played the series before and haven't liked it, Fable III will not convince you to change your mind in any way. It improves in some ways on things that were already good without really remedying the things that weren't working, but at its heart, there's plenty of fun to be found in this game, and as long as you find the fun, Fable III's flaws aren't too big to be forgiven.

Xbox 360Gamer Limit (Nov 11, 2010)
Fable III isn’t quite the leap forward that Fable II was but it does a lot to refine the formula and keeps what worked from its predecessors. It also has its share of baggage including the bugs, shallow moral choices, and disappointing king of Albion story arc. Fable III nonetheless stands up as a good title owing to the solid writing, stellar voice acting, streamlined system, and excellent quests.

Xbox 360Da Gameboyz (Nov 09, 2010)
Lionhead Studios tried to do some new things with this RPG, but, unfortunately they didn’t quite make the impression that improved the game. The top notch graphics and amazing voice cast made the game a pleasure on the presentation front. However, the cliché story and what I felt was a step back in what the Fable franchise has accomplished by keeping the game simple, has turned to this highly anticipated game into a mediocre title.
75
Xbox 360Xbox World Australia (XWA) (Nov 08, 2010)
I wish I could say that Fable III exceeds expectations and blows predecessors away, but sadly some bizarre development decisions from Lionhead Studios have marred what is otherwise a terrific fantasy tale where industry and darkness threaten the city you are destined to rule. And even taking the throne is a swing-and-a-miss; with any luck, Lionhead are already at the drawing board brainstorming potential content that'll further test your steely will to rule Albion. Upon launch, however, Fable III is merely a case of a few bumbling steps backward.
75
Xbox 360Game Revolution (Nov 05, 2010)
The fact of the matter is Fable III feels like Fable 2.5 rather than a full-on sequel. Just like the King of Albion, you need to be responsible for the things you say and the promises you make, no matter what the consequences. Or just learn to keep your mouth shut until the game is totally done. Fable III is a good game, but it should be a great game, and that's all on you. I still love ya, though, Pete!

Fable 3 on PC offers the same enjoyable action RPG experience that console owners were treated to last year. Control issues prevent the PC version from eclipsing its Xbox counterpart, but PC owners are in for a nice visual treat. If you only game with computers, then rest assured that your Fable 3 experience will not be marred by a dodgy port job. That said, those with a choice of nightmares will have to make the judgement call of whether they want better graphics or controls. But at least we now have the choice.

Xbox 360GameSpot (Oct 26, 2010)
Fable III has issues--tedious combat, emotionally distant characters, and weak moral choices among them--but its biggest problem is Fable II. The latest adventure in Albion plays so similar to its predecessor that it struggles to establish an identity of its own. The small tweaks don't dig very deeply and the cosmetic changes are welcome but insubstantial. So, this is ultimately a really enjoyable game that will deliver a serious case of deja vu for anyone who spent time playing the last game. That's not a deal breaker, but it makes the good elements less exciting and the bad elements more noticeable. The outstanding artistic design and great sense of humor make it worth playing, but the other aspects have been streamlined to such a high degree that their simple pleasures have been lessened. While you shouldn't expect everything to run smoothly, it's a joy to be whisked away to Fable III's magical world.

Fable III is a good game, and in some ways it’s a great one. But playing it, one can’t help but wonder what it would be with better combat and a more thoughtful second half.

WindowsAusGamers (May 18, 2011)
Fable III is at its best on PC, but the gameplay faults that Chad mentioned in the Xbox 360 review are still very much at play here. Despite some welcome attention to detail in this port, it’s still not enough to raise it to the heights of ‘must play’ for an action RPG whose charm, humour and some genuinely interesting ideas aren’t strong enough to battle against how unchallenging it is and how repetitive a lot of tasks can become.

WindowsGameZ (Jun 03, 2011)

Xbox 360BioGamer Girl (Feb 25, 2011)
In the finale your actions throughout the game will determine how it all ends. Your actions can close or open certain quests within the game so remember that every action has a consequence. The ending to the game is financially driven and can change the outcome. The amount of gold in the treasury determines rather after the battle you come back to a densely or heavily populated Albion. Fable III had a lot of new stuff to offer but I think Fable 2 was much better. I found myself playing Fable 2 for a couple of months while on Fable III only about a week or two. So you definitely do not get yours money's worth from the last installment of Fable but you do get a fun adventure while it lasts. Also you can buy a special edition copy of Fable III that allows you to create your own villager and find her in game. Below is my villager I created but I have still not found her while playing Fable III.

Xbox 360Gamereactor (Finland) (Oct 28, 2010)
Fable III on erikoinen tapaus. Fable III:a voisi kuvailla sekalaiseksi irtokarkkipussiksi, jossa on joukossa paljon hyviä makeisia ja jonkin verran huonoja. Pussin pohjassa on kuitenkin pieni reikä, mitä kautta jotakin on päässyt putoamaan kokonaisuudesta pois.

Xbox 360Video Game Talk (Nov 09, 2010)
Where Fable II's mix of streamlined role-playing and fluid combat came together into a highly satisfying, fantastical experience that's to be taken with a grain of salt, Fable III's higher-brow storytelling concept delivers a shakier experience due to a simplified upgrade structure and slippery realism-geared alterations. Those who didn't dig the second will not find enough different in the third to alter their opinion, since they're roughly the same experience. Fans of the series, however, will still enjoy a similarly involving trek across Albion, but it's not without drawbacks that detract from its charm. Still, there's a strong concept at its core, a plentiful amount of aggressive combat, and a sublime fantasy-bound environment to trail through in the process, all building to a clunky but compelling second-half of the game that adds an extra wallop of justification behind the vibrant leveling-up. It still comes Recommended, but not with the same level of energy as its predecessor.

Xbox 360PAL Gaming Network (PALGN) (Nov 05, 2010)
For all that is good and unique about the game, for all the potential, for all the endearing charm and regardless of what promises have and have not been kept, for the first time in the series, Fable III is unable to transcend the sum of its parts. For the issues of design and playability, all the good aspects are enough to offset the bad ones. And as it stands, there really is nothing out there that will give you the same experience as Fable III. Unfortunately though, the simplification has just gone too far and the technical deficiencies can often make the game a chore. So once again, while you’ll still have you’re fun; we’re left to lament the unfulfilled potential of another Lionhead title.
70
Xbox 360Games TM (Nov 04, 2010)
The internal logic of Fable III’s climactic hours makes little or no sense, and this is best exemplified by the way your final year counts down: completing the first full day of decisions caused 30 days to pass, as did the next full day, and the two after that, but just as we began to detect some consistency the following two days passed 120 days each. With absolutely no warning we were thrust before our fate without even the money we should have earned from property to fill our coffers. The Albion we had spent so many hours happily exploring was destroyed in a manner that felt entirely beyond our control. It didn’t entirely undo all of Lionhead’s good work, but it came very close.

Xbox 360Worth Playing (Oct 30, 2010)
The Fable franchise has always been ambitious, promising big things and often failing to deliver. Unfortunately, Fable III suffers from the same plight, serving up a mediocre experience that's difficult to get excited over. If the series continues, it would be wise for Lionhead to pull back on the big ideas and spend some time working on the little things. Once they get that right, we can talk about grand experiments. Your parents' fairy tales may have ended with "happily ever after," but the Fable series needs a hero to ride in and rescue it from itself.

Xbox 360Edge (Oct 29, 2010)
Once you laugh off the conclusion of the main questline, there remains a wealth of warmly written sidequests to be hoovered up, secrets to be hunted in every corner, and chickens to be kicked. There’s persistent delight to be had mucking around in Albion, and it’s difficult to harbour great annoyance for its story’s failing when it takes place in a world imbued with such a will to pleasure, and such an irreverent sense of itself. Nonetheless, for all its polish and solid production, its core combat offering is a regression and its showy centrepiece comes apart almost entirely. What lies around and beneath is joyous - but you can’t help but feel that it’s the basis for something greater than Fable III.

Xbox 360Game Over Online (Nov 29, 2010)
Fable III is simply more of Fable II with dubious “improvements.” The gameplay throughout has taken a back seat to the titles aspirations, and since a good deal of those aspirations do not quite pan out an outright purchase cannot be recommended. Fans of the previous titles will want to give it a Saturday’s rental, however, if for no other reason than try to bed-down a peasant girl and possibly contract something nasty (no joke).
70

Xbox 360Brash Games (Nov 23, 2010)
Fable 3 still has its moments, but at times it feels like you’re playing a demo version, a basic broth that’s waiting to have all of its flavour added. When it emulates its prequel it’s a joy, but when it tries to stride out on its own, it falls flat, lacking the innovative flair that made its prequel so eminently enjoyable. If you view Fable 3 as sort of a stop gap, a 2.5 redux of the original, then its faults are easier to bear. It’s not as funny, but it’s still funny. The quests aren’t as clever, but they’re still clever. It looks like we’re going to have to wait another two years or so to see if Peter Molyneux and Lionhead can finally come up with the goods they keep claiming they’re able to make.

Xbox 360AusGamers (Nov 18, 2010)
Maybe I’m being too critical of the game, but being the third in the series, the problems I experienced really should have been sorted out, not exacerbated. Fable III lacks the necessary polish to be the A-List title it’s supposed to be. If the story was engaging enough, the gameplay well balanced and challenging, then Lionhead could be forgiven for other oversights, but alas, they just aren’t. With so many other great games out there, unless you’re a Fable fanatic, or you’ve exhausted all the other great games available at the moment, then this might be for you, otherwise it’s a rental at best.

On the other hand, it's not a hard game and it certainly substitutes depth for breadth. There's a lot to do, but none of it's particularly engaging, and this will doubtless turn some off. If this doesn't faze you, and you simply want to venture into a well-defined and amusing fantasy world and mess about with it to see what happens, you'll have a great time. If you're interested, then don't be put off by the conversion.

So it came to pass that Molyneux’s latest epic was brought unto Windows. Though it was a port lacking in polish, with graphics below those of the modern age, the people embraced it as a rarity. Gritty but immature, dark yet not steeped in the occult, it stood out amongst the science fiction and horror-fantasy that dominated the marketplace. And whilst some held greater anticipation for Molyneux’s Project Milo than the next chapter of Fable, they knew that the work of a mind so strange could be only a blessing, nary a curse.

WindowsGod is a Geek (May 18, 2011)
Fable III has many grand ideas, but despite the fact that they all clamour loudly for the player’s attention, none of them are really fully developed. The game improves noticeably after the halfway point though, and patient and forgiving players will be rewarded with a more experimental experience which takes risks with genre, narrative and gameplay. The subject matter of this portion of the game is more mature and thoughtful, and the game’s evil/saintly morality compass is spun upon its axis to create an altogether more complex universe. Fable III is an ambitious game which is not content to simply rest upon the laurels of earlier iterations. Its gameplay might not always satisfy, but it contains enough good ideas to make for an interesting whole. If you can see past the shallow role-playing elements, the occasionally frustrating fighting and the inconsistent decision system, there’s an intriguing kernel at the heart of this ambitious game.

WindowsComputerGames.ro (Jun 07, 2011)
Fable III proves to be a pretty unstable mix, with good visual value, but an excessive simplification of the gameplay. You might get to finish it once and then go on with any remaining secondary missions. Still, there’s no life after that; the fights are boring, enemies stupid and the story too thin. Add here the lack of reaction when doing bad stuff, and there’s not much reason to just keep on playing. Thus, it’s for the series fans and casual players who don’t feel like taking up something more demanding.

Xbox 360Game Shark (Oct 27, 2010)
In spite of its problems, Fable III is as smooth and easy as ice cream. Lionhead has crafted a basic, laid back, low intensity, comfort food RPG with almost no rough edges and no barrier to entry. Jumping into Dragon Age or Fallout: New Vegas or World of Warcraft isn’t something you can do lightly. Those are demanding games, played out over the long haul, and requiring a lot of investment. Fable III isn't the least bit taxing. It's there for you on very simple, almost simplistic, terms. Dress like a fool, traipse around the kingdom you’ve wrought, level up some of those weapons you've found, watch your wealth grow obscene and useless, and just tidy up stray quest chains, fighting unchallenging but nevertheless gratifying battles along the way. All the heroics of harder games without any of the fuss, and set in a place you've made your own.

WindowsGame Over Online (Jun 13, 2011)
In a sense I understand what Molyneux was trying to do here – create a more immersive action RPG environment in that many action-RPGs are really little more than clickfests. In Fable III you can purchase houses, buy businesses, get married, and have kids. Like B&W you have a pet, a dog in this case, but he’s more useful and less idiosyncratic. By and large good stuff. Those things work. And in general dealing with the leaders of the various towns to get them to ally with you is good RPG fodder (and deciding later whether or not to keep the promises you make is an interesting wrinkle). But the dreary nature of performing menial tasks repeatedly with individual people to scrape experience? Not so much. In fact as an activity it likely ranks down there with gold farming. And while it was ludicrous as a god to be expected to find every lost child, as a prince trying to stabilize an entire kingdom it’s only slightly less asinine. And in Fable III it’s all been linked together, inextricably.

Xbox 360newbreview.com (Oct 28, 2010)
Once again Peter Molyneaux and Lionhead studios have promised us the world and delivered Sweden. Fable III does very little to expand on the formula established in Fable II and many of the alterations it does make are actively harmful to player engagement and empowerment. However, it has also kept most of what was lovable and charming and genuinely joyful about Fable II and married it with the most expansive and well-drawn game world so far. The new Ruler mechanics are hesitantly implemented and ultimately disappointing compared to what might have been, but they provide enough scope for replay and experimentation to justify their presence for now. Ultimately, as with every game Molyneaux has ever made, Fable III is a truly brilliant sequel waiting to happen.

To put it simply, Fable III is a step backwards. Taken by itself, it may be an engrossing experience for completionists, but as a sequel and a game in the evolving space of game development, it doesn’t deliver. In part, it’s the promise that the game offers — lead a revolution, become king of a mystical land, make important moral decisions, customize your avatar — that builds the expectation impossibly high. Additionally, it’s the dumbed-down systems, like combat or NPC interaction, which provide accessibility at the cost of depth. Of course the game still plays like it should, and takes players across a variety of well-designed levels smattered with interesting characters and cheeky British humor. Hell, it’s even got John Cleese in it. But a triumph for Albion it is not.

One particularly hilarious quest midway through the storyline speaks volumes about the difficulties of designing a modern game. A group of dorks in Bowerstone insert you into a game of their own creation -- basically Albion's version of Dungeons & Dragons. As you traipse through their world, the three dungeon masters argue with one another over various aspects of their design. Should opening this chest be optional or mandatory? Should the player be forced to speak with all of the townspeople, or should he be told which one holds the information he requires? One room in their game consists of nothing but a single, brightly lit lever in a pitch-black chamber with several large, vibrant yellow arrows dangling from the ceiling -- pointing directly at the lever's location. Fable III seems to be designed for the type of person who still has trouble finding that lever.

Fable III does a great job reprising the elements you expect from the Fable series. The colorful, sprawling lands to explore, the great flexibility in how you develop your character and make your way through the world, the wonderfully dry sense of humor, and the cockeyed view of fantasy tradition are all here and accounted for. It's just the rough trimming around the edges, the ways that those grand elements could have been better realized and better conveyed to the player, that make this as frustrating a game as it is lovable.

In Fable III you can be king. You quest through a fantasy countryside gathering support to overthrow a vile ruler, take the crown, then strike a balance between fulfilling promises made to supporters and the overall safety of Albion. It's a pretty game and the production values are high, but it sounds a lot better than it plays for a number of reasons. An underdeveloped combat system, uneven story, heaps of bland quests and an endgame that feels rushed make the overall experience feel unfocused and unbalanced. The cast of characters may occasionally make you giggle, but aren't developed nearly enough to establish a meaningful bond to create the kind of moral turmoil Lionhead is clearly aiming for. For a game that tries so hard to get under your skin, Fable III rarely manages to do much more than scratch the surface.

Fable III isn’t a terrible game, it’s just a disappointment, and suffers from a bad case of over-simplification. As entertaining as the characters and quests may be, they’re weighed down by the increasingly simple gameplay. The biggest shame is that Lionhead made this fascinating and attractive world and then removed your ability to affect it in any real way.

Fable III isn't a bad game; it's just very disappointing. Lacking the sense of adventure of the previous games and making the most simple of elements more awkward and overdrawn, it feels like a step back for the franchise. It's a shame, because its narrative goals are truly outstanding and there's still a lot of simplistic role-playing fun to be had. These positives are outweighed, however, by a downsized sense of scale, cumbersome attempts at innovation, and a total neglect when it comes to fixing some important problems. Not only has Fable once again failed to live up to its promise, it's gotten further away from it than before, and that's an incredibly frustrating shame.

Fable III attempts to radically reinvent the franchise, a reinvention that fans neither wanted nor asked for. Instead of following on the success of the previous entries, Fable III tries to be something other than it is, but I don’t think the developers were even sure what this is supposed to be. The developers should have focused on cleaning up bugs, graphical slowdown and improving the speed of the combat so that it plays with the fluidity of other modern hack-and-slash games. Instead, we received Fable III, a disappointing and lacking game that needed more time in development.

The game is reduced to one of the most joy-free products I’ve played in years. Clearly they had a mind to streamline the experience by improving on their success with Fable II, but whether due to time, money or lack of a unified vision Fable III has ended up as a game where the developer just hasn’t thought it through.

WindowsRock, Paper, Shotgun (May 17, 2011)
Its PC version launching on the same day as the Witcher 2 (a game which my experiences so far suggest it firmly understands what it is and what it wants to achieve) does Fable III no favours and quite possibly even dooms it commercially – at least if comparative social network chatter is anything to go on. That is a genuine shame, because I’m extremely glad to have the series back on PC, while the new difficulty setting suggests Lionhead have a firmer grasp on what Fable needs to be even if it’s too late to entirely get this one back on track. The weakest of the series this might be, but certainly not to the extent that I’ve lost my strong affection for that series. Welcome back, old chap – but perhaps don’t take so much on and focus on making the basics better next time, please.
