The background story of this game ties in directly with the world's genesis story: The nine gods could not agree what the purpose of humans should be. Because they take turns, each one tries to undo the previous god's decisions - either in favor or against humans - which leads to chaos, dangerous wildlife and the disappearance of magic. The player takes control over a 16-year old boy who sets out to fulfill a prophecy...

The Fall of Gods is an action-adventure in the style of the early The Legend of Zelda games. The player explores the overworld (which is open for exploration and features various hidden spots and optional rewards), talks to NPCs and visits dungeons. The game strikes for a balance between the action-based combat and puzzle solving (mostly switch-related). The latter are usually concentrated on the dungeons. However, there are also side-quests on the overworld available: these involve finding items and give them to the right person (which then gives the player another item and so on).

The player can equip one weapon (either melee or ranged) and a magic spell at a time. The latter requires magic energy to cast. There is no traditional character development, but new items (for example better armor), new spells and extended life/magic bars can be found in treasure chests.
