I always love reviewing these games because it’s spoiler-free territory because the game-world is what you make of it. The coming days, weeks and months will be filled with conversations between family, friends and strangers on just how they tackled a particular mission, or simply how they’ve shaped their version of Sanctuary over how you did it. Fallout 4 is a game that will spark conversation and a huge amount of love, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t follow in the footsteps of Skyrim as something of a cultural phenomenon. The game’s only real issue is in the dated visuals, but the engine serves a purpose beyond eye-candy, and hey, we’re mostly walking through irradiated trash anyway, right.

It’s a bit weird to say Fallout 4 is operating under the principle that less is more, especially since its representation of Boston is dotted with hundreds of hours of things to do. But Bethesda more or less leaves the revolution to the Commonwealth residents and the literal fine-tuning to the players (by way of customization features), and doesn’t do much more than upgrade the graphics (those radiation storms are as beautiful as they are deadly), declutter the skill tree, and throw in the ability to wear Power Armor. But, hey, if traveling through Bethesda’s version of Boston for 60 hours has taught me anything, it’s that the little things are what matter.

The graphics won't blow you away, the side quests and scale of the game will. The main story of what I've played is great and everything you do just seems to have been really thought out. I'm really addicted to Fallout 4 and a fan of this genre of game for the same price as every other game you get hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay, I love it and for me it scores 10/10, I mean who doesn't like watching a sniper round in slow motion zip across the battlefield and explode someone's head into little tiny bits? or pick pocketing someone for all there goods and as a present leave behind a live grenade?

The best thing about Fallout 4 is the freedom that it gives you, not only with what to do and where to go, but also how quests will turn out. Will you talk your way out of a certain quest or run in all guns blazing? The choice is yours. Obviously the game is not without its problems; starting and ending conversations can sometimes be a little awkward, NPCs have a habit of getting stuck or being in the wrong place, and there were more than a couple of problems in figuring out what the settlements needed. Overall though, the game is pretty close to perfect, and if you decide to pass on exploring the vast wasteland, then you only have yourself to blame. The hype is real, and you won't be disappointed.

Fallout 4 may very well have superseded 3 as my favorite entry into the series. With the huge map and absolutely insane amount of things to do from exploration to sidequests, I will still be sinking many dozens of hours into this game post-review. For those that worry: don’t, because war, war never changes.

The world, exploration, crafting, atmosphere, and story of Fallout 4 are all key parts of this hugely successful sandbox role-playing game. Great new reasons to obsessively gather and hoard relics of happier times, strong companions, and sympathetic villains driving tough decisions make it an adventure I’ll definitely replay and revisit. Even the technical shakiness that crops up here and there can’t even begin to slow down its momentum.

When you put the controller down, you think about the friend you betrayed to benefit another, the shifting tide of an incredible battle, or the moment you opened a drawer and found someone's discarded effects, making you wonder how they felt before the bombs fell. In moments like these, Fallout 4 can be an intoxicating experience. You're often forced to sacrifice something--a relationship, a lucrative opportunity, or your health--to make gains elsewhere. And the deeper down the rabbit hole you go, the more you wonder: what if I chose a different path? You second guess yourself, not just because you had other options, but because you aren't sure if you did the right thing. The fact that your decisions stick with you after walking away from the game is a testament to the great storytelling on hand. Fallout 4 is an argument for substance over style, and an excellent addition to the revered open-world series.

FALLOUT 4 is a roaring response to criticism that the series has ignored its qualities as a shooter in favor of its deeper and stronger RPG roots. Nearly every design change in FALLOUT 4 poises the game as a more streamlined modern shooter with high production value across the truly open-world Commonwealth wasteland. The introduction of settlements, newly designed power armor, and deeper crafting evolve the FALLOUT franchise for the better. This occasionally comes at the cost of storytelling, however, with a plot based on stringently polarizing factions as well as diminished interaction with characters in general. But despite these missteps, FALLOUT 4 will only improve with time, assuredly with the assistance of the community and user-created mods, and soundly reclaims the franchise as a forward-thinking series in the industry today.

Fallout 4 is a stellar RPG experience, there are no two ways about it. Even if it may be a little rough around the edges from a technical standpoint, the game more than compensates with a rich open world ripe for exploration and a thought-provoking narrative. While some frustrating design decisions may create a bit of a learning curve for newcomers, those who are persistent will find a deeply enjoyable and rewarding game. For Fallout fans looking for another grand adventure to sink their teeth into, Fallout 4 offers a refined but not revolutionary experience. However, when it’s this good, that just may well be enough.

The biggest compliment I can give is that after so many hours I'm going to wrap up this review and head right on back to the Wasteland - it's just unfortunate that what could have been an absolutely perfect experience is bought down a peg or two by performance and visual problems. With all that said this still comes heartily recommended, and is a strong contender for the best RPG of the year.

Fallout 4 is a masterclass in open world design. Consistently engrossing and absolutely stuffed with intricacies, it's a title that'll keep you enthralled for hours at a time as you gradually unravel its desolate yet hopeful post-apocalyptic portrayal of Boston. Although it's let down by some disappointing frame rate issues, it's not enough to detract from what's otherwise one of the most atmospheric and beautifully brutal games on the PS4. Significantly improved combat, a constant wealth of gameplay options, and a heavy emphasis on player choice combine to create an adventure that's truly memorable.

Fallout 4 might not be as technically advanced as, say The Witcher 3, but it’s a game full of charm and substance, which makes up for an ageing Creation Engine. Fallout 4 boasts an incredible world full of intrigue, mystery and suspense, backed by a whole host of weird and wonderful characters. It’s a world you’re going to want to go back to, time and time again.

Fallout 4 delivers on its promise to keep players busy in the wasteland for as long as they want to spend there. The insane amount, and variety, of content available in this game is going to make it an experience that players don’t want to walk away from for at least the next year. The graphics may hold it back from being the game that defines this console generation, but the unforgettable narrative and open-world experience are more than enough to make up for the slightly dated aesthetic.

Despite the bugs, which are mostly worthy of a chuckle, and the visuals which you don’t even notice after a while, Fallout 4 is an incredible game. The game doesn’t make massive strides over the previous titles, with an overwhelming familiarity despite the new features. But the proof is in the playing, and once you start exploring the wasteland, it is very difficult to stop. There is always something new to discover in Fallout 4, making it one of the most packed open-world games I have ever played. While it may not quite manage game of the year, it is certainly a contender, and an essential purchase for any Fallout fan.

WindowsPC Gamer (Nov 08, 2015)
As a whole, though, it's a loving production. It's filled with care and attention to detail—like the expanded set of radio stations, or the way flash radiation storms bathe the world in a sickly, ominous green hue. It's a pleasure to pick through the world, to discover new sights, and to pick through the perks and customisation option to conceive the perfect character build, however bizarre. In short, many of Fallout 4's problems, like every Bethesda RPG before it, are a consequence of what makes them unforgettable. That might not be the neatest conclusion, but it explains why, 50 hours in, I'm still having fun. It also explains why, now that I've finished this review, I'm going to play it for many hours more.

Fallout 4 is a superb game, with a huge and compelling game-world to explore, entertaining combat, and many quests that’ll keep gamers hooked for over a hundred hours of single-player-only fun. Yes the story is literally forgotten the moment you leave it (what son?), but other than that everything great about Fallout 3 is back in the sequel… which is both a blessing and a curse. It really does feel like Fallout 3 with slightly nicer graphics and a few mods (like “homebase customization”) thrown in, and while Fallout 4 has everything that made the last game great it has all the weaknesses too, like a terrible inventory menu, stiff character models, interior locations requiring loading screens, and more. Fallout 4 is an amazing game that I doubt anyone will be disappointed by, but it’s not unique. And I still prefer New Vegas.

Fallout 4 adds a lot of features (item crafting, unique weapons and settlement building) but comes at the cost of the role playing features. This ensures accessibility to a wider audience but will turn away some of the more hardcore role players among us.

WindowsGame Over Online (Nov 10, 2015)
I suspect you could blindfold most players, drop them into some random Fallout scene, and they would be unable to tell if they were playing 3 or 4. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. To some extent criticizing Fallout 4 in this way is like criticizing Skyrim for being a lot like Oblivion. Still, unfair though it may be, people who were hoping for some vast re-imaging, some electric new element that was going to make them fall in love with Fallout all over again, they’re going to be disappointed. If you had enough of Fallout between 3 and New Vegas, Fallout 4 is like signing up for more of that. However, if you, like me, haven’t given a lot of thought or playtime to Fallout since NV, and were kind of thinking “What the heck, I’ll give it a go again,” you’re in for a treat. And of course for the Fallout fanatics, the wasteland (this time set in and around Boston) offers an environment chock full of new adventure.

Xbox OneWorth Playing (Nov 18, 2015)
In the end, Fallout 4 is essentially Fallout 3 with a few more features and tweaks. That isn't a dig at the game, but that's what most fans of the series will think. The experience is top-notch, as few developers try to pull off something this large and immersive, and fewer still ever do it right. Even with the bugs, Fallout 4 is a highly addictive and fun experience that gamers of all types will enjoy.

Raisonnable, accessible.

PlayStation 4Common Sense Media (2015)
This role-playing game is everything that players loved about Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas brought to current-generation consoles. Aside from an expanded crafting system that finally gives players good reason to pick up some of the random stuff littering the wasteland (you'll actually find use for the ceramic in old toilets and the plastic in disposable cutlery), a slightly modified character progression system that places more focus on the popular "perk" abilities, and the larger role given to the game's Iron Man-like power armor, Fallout 4 is very similar to its predecessors. It doesn't even look all that much better, despite the leap to a new generation of console hardware. Long story short, Fallout 4 will be a delight for anyone simply looking for more of what they loved about the last couple of Fallout games but perhaps a smidgeon disappointing for players hoping for a game that significantly evolves the experience.

I can tell you, with a certainty, that while its most ardent critics will echo this argument as loudly as they can, it won’t make a lick of difference to the noise made by the people who love this game. Fallout 4 is a good game, an absolutely solid work horse of a title that will, if you let it, carry you away for hours at a time to explore its depths. At a time when titles seem to be losing content, Fallout 4 has more then you can possibly consume all at once, and its host of options mean that when you come back for a second, third, or ninth pass, the experience can actually, honestly, be something different. That’s not something you can say about a lot of games, and in that regard, Fallout 4 is truly in a class by itself.

Fallout 4 just feels safe, even when trying new things. The addition of a voiced main character limits the depth of choice too much to be worth the payoff. The warring factions you have to choose from force you down a path that offers no good middle ground to say "screw it, I don't want to support any of you." They all have different ideologies, but the outcome for each is just too similar. As such, the main storyline overcomplicates itself into irrelevance instead of becoming a complex web of intrigue like other games in the series have offered. If all you are looking for is more Fallout, with tons of areas to explore and lots of side quests to complete, there is plenty of that here, but be warned that they are not the same deep, entertaining quests offered by the past two games.

Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, welcome you to the world of Fallout 4 -- their most ambitious game ever, and the next generation of open-world gaming. Never mind that it's got its fair share of pointless filler and design fumbles.

The occasionally extreme performance issues found in the console versions of Fallout 4 make those versions more difficult to recommend than their PC counterpart.

Fallout 4 isn’t a terrible game, but it’s nowhere near the Game of the Year material some sites are hyping it up to be. Its most direct competitor this year is Witcher 3, which does everything Fallout does better, even if it lacks the town building element and dollar-store Donkey Kongs. It’s not as good as New Vegas, and is functionally 2008’s Fallout 3 with a fresh coat of paint. If you absolutely loved Fallout 3, there’s plenty to like here, but I was hoping that seven years later we might see a little more improvement than this. In the meantime, while I don’t expect the game to change in any major way, hopefully Bethesda will at least deal with some bugs.

Fallout 4 is the best Fallout game to-date and it's packed with things to see, to do and contains the most amazing settlement/crafting system ever designed for a game.
