Fermi's Path is a fast reaction game with a concept similar to Proun. The player controls the particle Fermi through levels in subatomic space. The particle is inside a sphere resembling a ball and moves by itself along a long, winding cable-like path, collecting objects and avoiding obstacles. It moves by itself similar to an endless runner game. Horizontal movement consists of four lanes on the single cable, using a rotary track. By pressing left or right Fermi automatically rotates 90 degrees. It is also possible to jump and shoot enemy particles. All game elements can appear on any of the four sides. While jumping it is possible to change lanes and that way complex jumps, going through an opening in the middle of two lanes, can be performed. Other game elements are arrows to boost forward, often after jumping and sometimes with many in succession, and black orbs that take Fermi to a bonus section.

Along the way hexagon-shaped points can be collected for a score and they build up a combo multiplier when collected without interruption. Levels also have hidden tokens for bonus points. Fermi can only collide a few times, but health can be built up again through energy pick-ups. There are also temporary shields. The game has about 23 levels, with three difficulty modes and different game modes such as a regular Path mode with a finish and an Endless mode that goes on until Fermi dies. The PC version contains an editor tied to Steam's Workshop to create and share custom levels.
