In Feuerwache: Mission - Leben retten the player takes control over a firefighter department. In the eight missions he has to solve missions like putting out a room fire or rescuing someone after a plane crash. The player has several different units to his disposal which all have a fixed field of use, e.g. one unit is only for interviewing witnesses, another one for operating fireplugs and so on.

The player starts the missions with a set of units but he can request another ones. Unfortunately every additional unit costs money and interferes with the budget limitation. In most missions there is also a time limit. The handling of the units is completely done with a context menu. An example: if the player wants a firemen to equip an axe he needs to left click on the unit to activate him. Then he opens the context menu, chooses "equip with axe" and then the truck where he the axe is stored. The same procedure is needed when moving an unit.
