DescriptionPewDiePie: Legend of the Brofist is a 2D platform game with pixel art based around the YouTube celebrity PewDiePie. The game starts in his house where one day, after uploading a video about making bread with his butt cheeks, he discovers his previous video has no views at all. It turns out all his fans have been kidnapped by barrels. This is a reference to a running joke where barrels became PewDiePie's arch nemesis after playing the Abduction mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
The levels have different gameplay mechanics and objectives. For instance, in the first level at the house PewDiePie needs to search the different rooms to find characters and items hidden in piles of laundry. These include his girlfriend Marzia, pink headphones, the Stephano statue, Dr. Crab, pugs and keys to car. At the same time he needs to defeat barrels that appear from holes in the walls by jumping on top of them. He has a limited amount of health, represented through hearts in the top left corner. There are sometimes health pick-ups. The game contains a lot of PewDiePie fan service as well as many references to memes.
The second level is auto-scrolling and there the character needs to move quickly between moving cars to escape a large tank controlled by General Barrel. The third level is a side-scrolling shooter where the character is inside a plane and can freely move around the screen taking out enemies while the level scrolls to the right. There is also a level where the character needs to get inside a London subway while fighting enemies (including a dinosaur) and escaping darkness. There are many regular platform levels as well, with different settings such as the North Pole or deep down a mine. In many levels it is possible to collect companions and there are sometimes bosses.
The character is controlled through a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen to move around and duck. The right side of the screen is used to jump. There are three difficulty levels and after completing a level a screenshot is saved by Snappie. During levels Brocoins can be collected as a currency. These are used to unlock new playable characters, attacks and defenses. Most of the new attacks and defenses are tied to a specific character. The skills can be used during the levels and take some time to recharge. After unlocking them, characters can be upgraded for additional health. Patches can be earned by completing challenges.
Playable characters include PewDiePie and Marzia, and fellow YouTubers like CinnamonToastKen, Cryaotic, Jacksepticeye and Markiplier. They also appear in short cut-scenes between or in levels, are voiced by the real people and they have drawn portraits in the game. Characters are selected prior to starting a level.
