Fly'N is a 2D puzzle platform game. The player controls a bud, a small creature that needs to save the World Trees from Dyer, a cosmic garbage man hairdryer who attempts to destroy them in a world called Helicia. The game consists of four worlds, accessed from a hub cocoon, with about 40 levels as well as some bonus levels. Each world has a different look and introduces a new type of bud to control. Fly'N can interact with the environment by singing, wake up plants and animals, and he can activate certain mechanics through blue orbs. Lyft can stick to almost any wall. Ywok can inflate himself, become invincible and bounce around. Nyls is able to proper himself through the air. Levels often have coloured switches to make it possible to switch between buds, combining their abilities to solve puzzles. Levels are completed by reaching the exit, but there are also boss battles and sections where a red, rising tide requires fast movement to stay ahead. Optionally various secrets and collectibles are present to unlock extras.

Next to each bud's specific ability, there are also general mechanics. The buds are able to double jump and can float in the air to cross a large gap. It is also often possible to run up walls that are not entirely vertical. Levels are split up in checkpoints and sometimes it is needed to reset manually after reaching a bonus area. At any time the buds can activate another dimension, called subtle vision, changing the look of the environment. This is used to solve puzzles when certain platforms or barriers are for instance only visible in a specific dimension, or to use gusts of winds for movement. Except for the boss battles there are no enemies to defeat, but there are many obstacles and red areas that kill instantly. The focus is almost entirely on exploration to reach the exit, using the buds' abilities to get around, and a lot of time is spent solving environment based puzzles.
