A sequel to Gyakuten Saiban, the second game in the series takes place one year after the events of the original game. Similarly to the previous game, Gyakuten Saiban 2 has you proving your clients' innocence as the defense attorney Ryuuichi Naruhodou, both by investigating the crime scenes and talking to witnesses, and by facing against prosecutors in the courtroom and presenting evidence. The game contains four cases in total.

There are a number of new features. It is now possible to present people's profiles as evidence. The five-penalty system from the first game has been replaced with a health bar, so some mistakes may cost more than others.

Finally, there is the Psyche-Lock system - thanks to a magical item he acquires in the second case, Ryuuichi can see the secrets locked in people's hearts and try to unlock them. In other words, when interrogating various characters during the investigation phases, some dialogue options will trigger the appearance of the person's "Psyche-Locks"; Ryuuichi can try to unlock them by presenting correct evidence to the person, eventually cracking the locks and persuading the person in question to reveal their secret. However, incorrect guesses drain Ryuuichi's health bar. On the other hand, unlocking someone's secret gives a health refill.
