I hate these kinds of games, they just aren’t my cup of tea. I grudgingly accepted the game for review and in the end I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed solving the puzzles and the battle scenes weren’t bad at all (I’ve been scarred by these and camera angles on other higher end gaming systems). Everything was reasonable to manage yet challenging enough to be fun. I found the game overall was easier than I anticipated, but fans of the Alone in the Dark series or any games in this genre will probably enjoy it (although probably not nearly as much as the versions on the higher end systems). Even if you don’t prefer the genre, but do like action/puzzle style games, Alone in the Dark may be worth checking out which is why I give this game a score of 85.

Une adaptation soignée et assez fidèle d'Alone In The Dark 4.
There are very few games like this on the Game Boy Color. Despite the frightening battle system and confusing play, the game is ultimately redeeming. It is definitely worth seeing; the eerie graphics can really pull a player into its spooky environment. But customers should think carefully before purchasing it, and not jump into things as fast as Edward Carnby did. Those who are patient and dedicated will probably find Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare very rewarding, while everyone else might consider this game a bit too difficult and trying.
Gaming Target (Jul 16, 2001)
If this game were released with no initial hype surrounding it, it would have been a very average game that some will enjoy, whereas others may not, but alas, this Alone in the Dark adventure was encircled with a load of buildup. Alone in the Dark was supposed to be the game that made people forget about the cancellation of Resident Evil for Game Boy Color. Sporting incredible graphics and immersive gameplay, this was supposed to be a challenger for game of they year, but seemingly disappointments in doing so. Though failing to live up to its hype however, anyone who didn’t take notice of the game’s previous publicity before its release will still enjoy play, to some extent.
