Pure Ride works. It looks good, and although it has a simple presentation, nobody can fault it for not being fun. With lots of tracks, riders and boards to unlock, this one is sure to please boarders and might just convince you to hit the slopes and try the sport. It would have been nice to see some different styles of racing or jumping, but I'd still rather have a little quality than a lot of mediocrity.

For most of the game I felt like I was snowboarding on the Great Plains. There is absolutely no sense of depth with this game whatsoever. Without the steep slopes, the extremeness of this particular extreme sport is lacking. There is absolutely no sense of peril, and really how much fun can you have playing a game that doesn’t risk anything less than everything? If you’re laid up with a broken leg and can’t make it to the slopes, Pure Ride on the GBC is going to be a pretty lame substitute. It’s not that it’s a particularly bad game, but rather there really isn’t one particular thing about the game that is interesting or inventive. Alas, when all of Pure Ride’s mediocre parts are added up, the total is mediocrity.
IGN (Dec 18, 2000)
Pure Ride is just too unreal to elevate the snowboarding sport on the Game Boy. True enough, plenty of other developers have biffed trying to re-create that feel before, but the one or two nice tricks this game pulls off on the hill can't hide that it had a clumsy run all the rest of the way. Handheld gamers are still waiting for that perfectly-groomed terrain park to shred. In this case, you might want to keep driving up the hill, because there's mostly slush at this game's base.
Gaming Target (May 17, 2001)
While the game may have its flaws it is still the best snowboarding game available on a handheld, so if you feel you must have one for your Game Boy Color than this should be your choice. But if you are looking for a solid, fun game to play for an extended period of time you should try not looking at all right now.
