The action is similar to arcade classics like Double Dragon, using your tryst blade (and whatever else might be handy), you stab and parry your way through hordes of pirate knuckleheads and various nasty bosses. While it isn't the most original set-up for a game, Cutthroat Island still has enough variety to distract "gamers on the go".

Bei der Game Boy-Version stimmen nur noch Titel und Hauptfigur mit den anderen beiden 16-Bittern überein, denn man bekommt hier ein Geprügel der übelsten Sorte serviert. Durch die Überbelegung der Knöpfe wird ein gezielter Angriff der kaum zu unterscheidenden Figuren zum russischen Roulette.
