Super Mario Strikers

aka: Mario Smash Football
Moby ID: 20629

GameCube version

Well... it's soccer.

The Good
This game wasn't too bad. I do not like sports games very well, but I still had a fair time. The gameplay is basically soccer with Mario theme. Similar to the Mario Kart games, you can use power-ups such as mushrooms or Bob-ombs to help you win.

You also have several favorites to choose from, including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and the rest of the gang. They all have different stats. For instance, Mario is a "well rounded" character, while Donkey Kong is more of a power house.

There are also trophies you can win, such as a trophy for hitting players or a trophy for winning games. Getting these trophies can unlock things for you, such as choosing what the main power-up is in a "grudge match".

The Bad
I did not like the fact that there was hardly any music in the game. The only times music plays are on the menu screen and the intros and ends of matches.

Also, it can be a pain in the butt to get some of the trophies, like the "perfect pass" trophy. In order to do a perfect pass, you and a partner have to be at the corners of the apposing goalie box at the same time. Then you must pass it to your team mate and kick it while the "tail" of the ball is green. One problem: these can be hard to pull off at times.

The Bottom Line
Even though it is kind of boring for me, you might have a good time, especially if you like soccer AND Mario.
