Hard as rubber-coated Kevlar. Impenetrable as a swishy cape. Thrilling as a night time encounter.

Player One (Aug, 1995)

Once you've gotten past the difficulty and questionable musical choices, there's really a great game beneath that's worth checking out. With a Game Genie and a friend, it can be quite enjoyable. Just don't expect an easy ride. Batman has tried repeatedly to be a successful game character and Clockwork Tortoise has come as close as anyone to making that happen.

The Genesis game is graphically nothing short of spectacular. The characters are animated so incredibly well that you'd swear they were on the screen. In addition, this game uses more colors than most Genesis games, and it really shows, as this game has some of the most incredible graphics (the explosions and the amount of stuff happening on screen at one time are mind boggling) ever seen in a Genesis game. Gameplay itself is incredibly well done. Where this game falters is in the difficulty. The game is so incredibly hard that unless you're one of those people who likes throwing controllers, you'll stop playing this game after the first level, if you ever get past the first level. Had it been easier, this game would have rated a perfect 10 in my book.

Is it just me or is 16-bit shaping up to be more than anyone bargained for? I simply cannot believe the visuals they are achieving on the Genesis hardware. It's a crying shame that this fantastic looking Genesis cart is nearly impossible to enjoy. Just when you think you have it dialed the game goes berserk and throws so much at you at once you experience total meltdown. It's just not right.

At first, I thought Batman & Robin was a pretty smart title. The graphics are nice, it's incredible challenging and it feels not unlike a Treasure title. But after I'd played through a few levels of Batman I soon realised a little problem. Despite the variety you'd think shoot-'em-up sections and so on might offer, the game hardly changes throughout. It's the same routine over and over again, and after a while it starts to get a bit boring. That doesn't mean that this is terrible by any means, but there are much better examples of the genre already available (most of them on discount).

Retrogaming History (Apr 01, 2008)
Dal punto di vista tecnico, The Adventures of Batman & Robin è sicuramente un ottimo run 'n' gun / beat 'em up.

GamePro (US) (Aug, 1995)
The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the Genesis just doesn't give you the special superhero rush that it should. Larger-than-life comic-book heroes larger-than-life treatment. Batman and Robin should have chilled in the Batcave a little longer.

Difficulty aside (it's tough getting anywhere even with two players), The Adventures of Batman & Robin is a proud addition to the long line of Batman merchandising. Just don't let anybody try to sell you a Batman T-shirt this summer, okay?

Batman & Robin has good sounds, good graphics and good control. You'll need the last part since there is so much on the screen you'll have to avoid. If you're looking for one serious challenge, you won't need to look any further than this one.

Play Time (Jul, 1995)

Game Players (Jul, 1995)
If the battles involved more than just stiff jump-kicks and the throwing of bat paraphernalia, then it might be more fun to fight so many enemies, but in the end, many of the levels just become an annoying interruption between bosses. At least it looks good.

Mega Fun (Jun, 1995)

Classic-games.net (Apr 12, 2021)
Alas, good graphics do not make a great game and The Adventures of Batman & Robin tragically falls short. The ridiculous difficulty almost completely ruins the game by its midpoint. Use a Game Genie to cheat your way through if you must but I would still recommend something like Alien Soldier or Contra Hard Corps first.

Fusion (Aug, 1995)
Undistinguished music and undistinguished graphics keep Adventures average. Also, the game play becomes excessively slow in Two-player Mode when both characters are on the screen. Players who hope to someday see a great game based on these characters may end up waiting for Batman, forever.

Gamers (Germany) (Jul, 1995)

Graphically, this game excels with tons of line scrolling backgrounds, lusciously dark colors, great animation, tight control, and a believable Batman world, but the difficulty simply makes this game unplayable, even by the best of the best! If you're a Batman fanatic, check it out, but don't expect to thrash through it! With Genesis software prices nearing the 5 to 20 dollar range, you can find a cheap copy to destroy after a few frustrating minutes.

So don't go out and sell your Batman pajamas to get up the cash to buy this game. Leave them right where they are. I promise you - even the most intense Batman fan won't lose sleep over not owning this one.

The Video Game Critic (Feb 17, 2006)
Actually, most of your attacks involve projectiles, making the game feel like a shooter at times. I really like finding those smart bombs that instantly destroys everything on the screen. The Batwing shooting stage provides a nice change of pace, but its lack of firepower is disappointing. Accompanying the action is an intense, pulsating musical score. Adventures of Batman and Robin offers no password options, just six continues. There's a lot to like, but this game should have been a whole lot better. My friend Eric and I used an invincibility cheat to get all the way through, and it was still a chore!
