Ação Games (Aug, 1991)
Morcegos me mordam!

Batman's audio features a generic soundtrack, and the sound effects are minimal. You won't find many surprises in the platform action, but the driving and flying sequences are a real treat. Actually they play more like side-scrolling shooters. In the Batmobile, you mow down cars, vans, and tanks on the road, while the Batwing stage lets you shoot down helicopters and balloons. I especially love those heat-seeking missiles, which effectively slice through several vehicles at a time. Batman for the Genesis may not be a showcase title for the system, but in terms of pure fun, it's hard to beat.

This was one of the games that would have made me buy a Genesis if I didn't already have one at the time it was released. The graphics, for the time, are second to none and absolutely blew me away! Looking back on it now, it seems to have a whitewash effect over the screen, but at the time I didn't notice and was blown away by the effects (the rain was amazing!) and the well-drawn graphics. Animation did leave a lot to be desired, but when the graphics are as impressive as they are in this game, animation is a minor point. The gameplay in this game still holds it's own. It's still as easy to control and addicting as it was when it was released! In general, I don't care about a game's storyline, but the story in this game comes directly from the movie.

Sega Pro (UK) (Aug, 1992)
Graphically, Batman the game is really in tune with its film counterpart. The music playing throughout, though not the original, is obviously inspired by the movie soundtrack. Gameplay is great fun, but rather dated (the game did come out over three years ago!), although there's plenty of variety here!

What can I say? It's great, but not the best. Once again, another simple game for the Genesis. The gameplay is true to the movie plot and scenery, but the bosses are too easy and don't last very long. Anyway, Batman is a lot of fun and full of huge levels to keep you busy. Solid.

Sadly the Mega Drive's potential has been grossly under used. The graphics are large and the sound effects adequate, but the backdrops are monotonously plain and nothing clever has been attempted. The action occurs over a large area - however the enemy onslaught in not very effective.

Sega Force (Sep, 1992)

Power Play (Oct, 1990)
Einige Missionen erinnern entfernt an "Super Shinobi", ohne allerdings an dessen Klasse heranzukommen.

When all is said and done, I do really like Batman: The Video Game. It's challenging, great to look at, and oozes personality. I'm especially fond of the Japanese version, with its tiny box. So cute! If you're not looking for the absolute best Mr. Wayne's alter ego has to offer, then by all means, have a go at this one. It's a decent little romp whose biggest flaws can be worked around with little trouble. Don't you wish you could say that about every game you've played?

IGN (Jul 23, 2008)
Sunsoft's Batman accurately recreates the movie and it was certainly a welcome treat after seeing the import featured in early gaming rags. Unfortunately, the game is too short and not especially challenging. If you are an absolute Batfan, this is worth adding to your collection since it does evoke the 1989 movie so well, but just don't expect a "wowza" of a game.

Sega Does (Nov 23, 2016)
Worse than Batman‘s poor timing is how the game failed to live up to the hype. For months prior to its release, fans pored over detailed screenshots that put the NES version to shame. Batman was back in his black suit (as opposed to the questionable purple number he wore in the NES version), and the level design matched the film’s sweeping Gothic architecture. It’s only the gorgeous sprites, lovingly rendered backdrops, and an overall faithfulness to the film that save Batman from being a complete flop. Without the inspired art direction, the game’s tedious brawling and exhausting shooting portions sink it into the depths of licensed game mediocrity.

Defunct Games (Jul 16, 2012)
Much like the movie it's based on, Batman offers big action scenes to make up for a shallow premise. This game is too afraid to delve as deep as the movie, which in turn only scratched the surface of what made Batman such a compelling character. Sadly the gameplay is limited and the levels are too short, resulting in an experience that is over before it has a chance to begin. It's not a bad game, but Batman on the Genesis was not worth the wait.

The original Batman on the Genesis is one of those licensed titles that could have featured any character. There's nothing here beyond the cinematics and characters that makes you feel like you're involved in the Michael Keaton film. All it does is put the player into a cheap Vigilante knock-off with a spectacular soundtrack.
