Superjuegos (Oct, 1997)
La première fois que l'on joue à The Lost World, on a du mal à réaliser que le jeu tourne sur cette même console qui a accueilli Altered Beast. Et pourtant le gouffre est bien là. Sorti tardivement (1997), The Lost World en impose, malgré ses quelques ralentissements.
We can honestly say that this game is more fun than the PlayStation/Saturn version. This 32 meg cart sports some killer Dino animations, and the island is large and complex. Our favorite mission so far has players using a taser to push stegosauruses into cages. The graphics look great for a Genesis game, but when there's a lot of on-screen action, the slow down does become frustrating. As with any good action/adventure, there are a ton of pick-ups and different weapons. Players can also call for air-drops when in need of supplies. To top it off, two players can cooperate on missions, or battle it out head-to-head. We'd love to see more titles like The Lost World for Genesis. It's entertaining, and pushes the Genesis to its limits.

I've spent most of this review merely describing the gameplay and intentionally trying to spoil as little as possible. If you have found it hard to discover how I feel about this game then you feel the same way as me. It is very much a game that seems trapped in its own time. Had I played it on my Mega Drive back in 1997, I am quite sure I would have felt a lot differently than I do now. Playing it today, it is a fairly unexceptional top down, mission-based shooter with dinosaurs. There is little from the film represented here and that is perhaps a good thing considering other movie licenses but I still feel there was more that could have been taken from the source material. If you play the game co-op you could add one more point to my score but as far as Jurassic Park games go, you could definitely do better than this. Even with all its flaws, I would still recommend the original over this.

The action is tediously slow, and it just gets slower with more activity on the screen. I was hoping Lost World might be a hidden gem but this is one Jurassic Park game best forgotten.
