There are some funny animations, like players shaking their head after being knocked to the floor, or pointing their fingers after a slam-dunk. Option menus let you customize every aspect of the game, and "sliders" let you fine-tune the frequency of offensive and defensive fouls. Four players can participate at once with the EA multi-tap, which is an absolute riot. NBA Live even tracks individual "user" statistics, allowing participants to compare performances after the game. NBA Live's music is memorable and funky, but the action on the court is relatively quiet. The game has are a few minor glitches like being called for a backcourt violation when a steal occurs at mid-court. Since the rebound button is also used to shot, occasionally you'll toss the ball the length of the court after pulling down a board. But if you're looking for a five-on-five basketball game that's fast and fun, NBA Live 95 is the way to go.
The NBA Live programming team has pushed the Genesis to the limit, producing a game that rivals the SNES version in nearly every way. If basketball is your thing, look no further than NBA Live '95.

There are a few other significant differences apart from control as well. Due to the Genesis' limited color palette, the SNES version has better graphics and the SNES' sound capabilities outshine those of the Genesis. And if you're into multi-player action, there is a limit of four players on Genesis while p to five SNES players can join each other on the court, filling out a five-man team.

Konnten mir die Tiny Toon-Sportspielchen nur ein müdes Lächeln entlocken, bin ich bei NBA Action ‘95 wie der Feuer und Flamme. Das sind die EA Sports-Simulationen, wie wir sie kennen und lieben: Realismus pur; und bei ihrem NBA-Update hatte EA auch einiges an verlorenem Boden gutzumachen; so beschränken sich die Neuerungen nicht nur einfach darauf die Teamstatistiken zu aktualisieren, der Spielaufbau ist einer 3D-isometrischen Perspektive gewichen, etliche neue Animationsphasen bereichern das Geschehen, und trotzdem ist das Sequel deutlich flüssiger und flexibler spielbar als bisher. FIFA-like ermüden Eure Spieler sogar spürbar mit der Zeit. DAS ist Basketball. Spielzüge taktisch aufzubauen ist ohne Probleme möglich, die variablen Optionen fließen hier natürlich auch mit ein; dazu vorbildliche Liga-Modi mit eigenen Teams und eine gewohnt professionelle Aufmachung. Sportspiel-Fans werden es lieben, die anderen sollen von mir aus mit ihren Toons glücklich werden.

I like NBA '95 more than any previous basketball title I've come across, it's just that there seems to be areas to improve upon. There's a lot to like and a bit to be smoothed over, but the ground work is set. The round ball series from EA hasn't quite reached the level of NHL or FIFA, no small task indeed, but we certainly look forward to the attempts of getting there.

Die Entwickler von NBA ‘95 haben wirklich an alles gedacht. Durch die umfangreichen Option-Menüs kommen auch Anfänger bald auf ihre Kosten, denn störende Regeln und Schiedsrichter lassen sich einfach ausschalten. im Vergleich zu NBA Showdown spielt sich NBA ‘95 deutlich schneller und die neue Perspektive sorgt für deutlich mehr Überblick. Die Animation der Spieler kann zwar nicht mit NBA Jam mithalten und die Dunkings wirken immer noch etwas lahm, aber Acclaims Modul ist ja auch eher als Action-Game angelegt, während EA eine möglichst realistische Simulation erreichen wollte.

There is nothing that makes NBA Live '95 difficult to pick up and play, but to that effect, I think that the game can get kind of monotonous after a while. Even the average beer drinking, sports loving guy like me will get kind of bored being up by twenty with 4:05 to go in the third quarter. Only the top teams in the game will give you a challenge down the stretch, which makes me not want to play a full eighty-one-game season very much, like I do in the NHL games and Sports Talk Baseball. This is clearly not as groundbreaking or as fun as the sports "holy grails" like NHL '94-'96, Bill Walsh College Football, etc, but I do believe this is the best true basketball action you can get on the Genesis. I think that there is a lot of fun to be had in this game by anyone, and for what you are going to pay for it, why don't you dish this one up and in for some terrific basketball action today?

If there is any weakness in NBA Live '95, it's in the special effects and 'explosiveness' factor. I've played other games - such as NBA Jam - that had more excitement in that area, and with animated characters you never get the reality of live action interactive games. But overall, like I like to say, NBA Live '95 was 'all good'.
