WindowsComputer Active (Jul 10, 2003)
Unfortunately, Vice City's graphics haven't significantly improved since GTA III and some parts of the game look decidedly ropey. Thankfully, the odd rough edge here and there goes unnoticed when you're in the thick of things. In any case, the music more than makes up for them. The list of music licensed for the game reads like a track listing for Now That's What I Call Music 3 and the in-game radio stations feature the best (and worst) from the likes of The Human League, Thomas Dolby and Kim Wilde. Far bigger than the original and in that sense better, Vice City is hugely involving, but the casual violence may put some adults off - and it is a game for adults.
WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW) (Aug, 2003)
As a sequel, Vice City doesn’t improve much on the few shortcomings of its predecessor. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to. The minor improvements—such as better missions and the addition of motorcycles—are enough to make the game worthwhile for anyone whose moral barometer can handle a game in which mass destruction and murderous rampages are not only encouraged, but also required.
PlayStation 2Gamereactor (Sweden) (May 07, 2003)
Minst.
WindowsAll Game Guide (2003)
Vice City is an engaging experience, however, and picayune qualms about the story's lack of complexity don't ruin the gameplay experience. On the contrary, the many improvements added to the GTA III engine make Vice City the superior game, with more of everything. Players, like Ray Liotta's character in Goodfellas, may bemoan a return to the life of the "schmuck" when they have to leave their criminal syndicate behind.
PlayStation 2UOL Jogos (Nov 29, 2002)
WindowsGaming Nexus (Jun 19, 2003)
Except for a few small glitches, this is one the most entertaining games available for the PC. With a strong M rating this game is strictly something that only adults should enjoy.
WindowsGameplanet (Jun 13, 2003)
Other than that this game is simply gaming nirvana. Free form and as complex or as simple as you want it to be. Even after completing the story a lot of value remains with the hunt for all the hidden nooks and crannies in the game or just the odd whirl to play tag with the police. It is very definitely an adult game and we thankfully get the full uncensored version here. What are you waiting for? If you have a PC over the minimum spec (which seem to be fairly accurate, note Celeron or Dureon processors need to be 1.2 GHz as a minimum) then get out there and grab it, gaming doesn't get much better.
WindowsPGNx Media (Jun 07, 2003)
This is, without question, the best and most ambitious game of the year, and it is also one that everyone should play before Lieberman gets his old throat to Congress. I have played 2,600 games in my fourteen-year career as a gamer, and this is, without question, one of the greatest experiences I have ever had.
100 (Aug 05, 2003)
Even if you forgot that this is simply a better version of award-winning Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA: Vice City for the PC would wow you just on its merits as a motorcycle racing game. But you also get boats, helicopters, property to own, and a unified 1980s aesthetic (right down to the soundtrack). We can't remember the last time we had this much fun with a PC game.
100 (Feb 12, 2006)
Overall, even though this is essentially just an upgrade to another game, it played very well, added a lot of new things that we didn't have before, and really held its own. I think for sheer fun factor this game has earned a high rating, but it's still not a perfect game, so it certainly will not receive a perfect score. Still, I give it a respectable score. This game was a blast, and I really think the only thing that can make the next game in this franchise as great as this one would be multiplayer. We can only hope.
PlayStation 2Entertainmentopia (Dec 10, 2002)
Vice City is more than a quick paint job on a year old game with new characters, but it isn’t GTA4 either. There is enough innovation and fixing of known issues to make this game just as classic as the one that came before it, and with sales on track to rival its partner in crime, its no secret that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has become one of the most intriguing and profitable in the industry. Still, there is so much to do and explore in Vice City that will never find yourself bored because you can’t beat a specific mission. You get the excitement of a platformer (finding objects) the thrill of a racing game (stealing cars and street racing) and the freedom of an adventure game (exploring the world around you). Vice City may be a follow-up to Grand Theft Auto III, but once you play it you see that it is so much more.
WindowsJust Adventure (Jul 31, 2003)
All-in-all, Vice City is definitely a game you should consider picking up. Whether you are a fan of Grand Theft Auto or not, Vice City is a game that has something for everyone to enjoy, however, keep this game out of the reach of young children. You'll thank me for it tomorrow.
PlayStation (UK) (Nov 08, 2002)
However, the pièce de résistance is, in our opinion, the developer's clearly rebellious nature. As you edge past cars on the highway by night, glancing up at the phallic skyscraper in the near distance, you'll realise it's even more phallic for the giant meat and two veg implied by the illuminated windows. And it's Rockstar North's obsession with detail that will see Vice City emerge as another big winner. Most of the fun you'll have in Vice City is down to what you can find off the beaten track - beach balls, destruction derbies, and much more. Hopefully temptation won't get the better of them, and we will get a proper sequel next time, but as far as one-year-mission-packs go, Vice City is the finest of all. And since you've already bought it, we'll simply wish you bon appétit.
PlayStation 2UGO (UnderGroundOnline) (Oct 31, 2002)
If you loved GTA 3, there really is little reason not to pick up Vice City. It's everything the original game was but bigger and better.
PlayStation (Jan 09, 2003)
Think of this as a free-form "Miami Vice" episode gone bad. Playing as Tommy Vercetti, you are released from prison and sent to Vice City to carry out a business transaction for the Mob—but it's a setup. Now you have to steal cars and accomplish a series of objectives designed to further the plot. Or, as in previous versions of GTA, you can ignore the plot and do anything you want. The sound track, composed of eighties tunes and mock advertisements, is terrific.
PlayStation 2GameCell UK (2002)
There'll be gore, sexy women and some real bad f****n' language, but if you're of a certain age and you've got one of those PS2 things you'd have to be a complete f****n' a*****e to miss out on it. Hey, just don't let Grandma see you playin' it.
PlayStation 2Common Sense Media (2002)

Hopefully, this time around, both parties will begin to ignore the controversy and recognize Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for what it really is: a brilliant video game.
PlayStation 2Darkstation (2002)
Well to be honest this is easily going to be one of the best games of the year hands down. The gameplay has improved just enough to not let the game feel exactly like GTA3. The graphics have improved greatly, and the sound is even better then before. With all the new advancements with the addition of motorcycles, and helicopters this has to be one of the best games of all time. Which is why it receives the all mighty perfect score, and in my mind is (so far) the game of the year.
PlayStation 2AceGamez (2002)
All in all, there isn't any more to say, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is the best action title on PS2 at the moment. I cannot see why anyone would not enjoy this game. It's fun, it's huge, it looks good, it sounds great and there aren't any big flaws to spoil it. If there's one game you must have it's this one!
PlayStation (GAF) (Apr 26, 2003)
Once again, Rockstar has released a true contender for game of the year. If you are “licensed-to-kill” (which means if you are old enough to drive, you are pretty much old enough to purchase this game), Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gives new meaning to the “Must own” cliché.
PlayStation 2GamersMark (Oct 31, 2002)
GTA Vice City is basically a bigger, better, meaner GTA3. While it looks and will feel the same as GTA3, there are more than enough improvements and refinements on it to warrant a purchase. The main problems from GTA3 remain, mainly graphics and framerate issues. But the pros from GTA3 easily outweighed the cons and Vice City easily topples GTA3.
PlayStation 2Game industry News (GiN) (2002)
GTA is so enjoyable that even someone who is very jaded won't find many faults. I did notice one, involving the targeting system. It is much improved over GTA3 but still needs a little work. Think of it this way, it could have ended up like Dead to Rights (ouch!) As of the time of this writing, almost all initial release copies have sold out, and the current shipment is on its way out the door. I can understand why, as Vice City has been anticipated for a long time and unlike other titles that have tons of hype, GTA:VC succeeds, and blows out the competition away. Suddenly the Game of the Year awards running is getting interesting!
PlayStation 2All Game Guide (2002)
As in Grand Theft Auto III, such problems are taken with a grain of salt when a game comes around offering such an ambitious scope in design. Vice City offers a better story line, a more engaging lead character, and more things to do in a larger environment. The addition of motorcycles, speedboats, and aircraft completely changes the feel of driving around the environments, and each element has been carefully thought out instead of tacked on. Follow-ups that come this quickly are not supposed to be this rewarding, which makes Vice City a remarkable achievement at a time when companies are all too willing to release so-called sequels with only a few tweaks and cosmetic changes.
I found the pc version of GTA: Vice City to be far more enjoyable then the PS2 version, even without the new features. Being able to add in your own 80s favorites was certainly a welcome addition. Vice City for the PC has not revolutionized the series, but it has made me realize what I missed by not getting on the GTA bandwagon in the first place. The story line of Vice City is great, topped with great graphics and a top of the line soundtrack. I am left with the desire to give Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City more then the allowable 5 GiN gems, but alas I can not. Those of you PC gamers wondering what all the fuss is about, do yourself a favor and give the game a try. Like me, you will be quickly converted.
PlayStation 2Factornews (Dec 16, 2002)
100 PC Gaming (May 18, 2003)
Grand Theft Auto Vice City for the PC is absolutely phenomenal! I purchased it the day it came out (5/13) and I haven’t been able to stop playing it. Yeah I stop for school and when I go to the bathroom and when I eat, but otherwise this game has an ‘Addictively Meter’ of 10/10. Few games can ever find this to be true with other games.
PlayStation 2Gameplanet (Jan 22, 2003)
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER we always say and when our MIA review copy of GTA: Vice City finally arrived we couldn't rip the cellophane off fast enough! You see this reviewer had been on self-imposed abstinence while retail copies filled and were in turn snatched off shop shelves over the last month or so. Masochistic yes, but the masochism was soon replaced with that familiar sadistic feeling creeping down the arms towards the fists as you pick up one of the game's first down-and-dirty melee weapons, the brass knuckles!
PlayStation 2GamerDad (Jul 30, 2006)
The best game your kids shouldn't play... Love the 80's? Vice City takes us back to the excess and glories of a mid-80's Miami: Cheap sports coats (sleeves rolled up), thin ties, no socks, pastel colors, pink neon, and cocaine... all embraced by a time in music that felt, earnestly felt, that the drum machine was king. It's equal parts Miami Vice and Scarface, and casts the player as Tommy Vercetti (voiced by Ray Liotta from Goodfellas), a bad guy thug sent up the river on drug charges. He didn't squeal while in prison but the big city mobsters want him out of the picture for a while, so they set him up in Vice City.
PlayStation 2Game Revolution (Nov, 2002)
It made international headlines. It made Joseph Lieberman have a cow. It made the world stand up and stare at the video game industry like it had just farted in class. But more than anything, it made me forget to shave, shower and show up for work. My couch is still trying to get rid of my ass imprint.
PlayStation 2GamePro (US) (Jan 08, 2003)
Ah, Vice City. I remember it very well from my childhood?the long, light-brown beaches, the pastel-colored garages and tenements, the Ferrari Testarossas coursing down the streets, that blond-haired guy with no socks blowing up cars with his shotgun, the serene Jan Hammer music...wait a minute, that was all on that one episode of Miami Vice I saw last night. Never mind.
WindowsWithingames (Jun 05, 2003)
WindowsGameSpy (May 09, 2003)
To be honest, my biggest disappointment with Vice City is that -- as we're all getting set for a week in Los Angeles to cover E3 -- I have to put it away for a while. Many of today's action games compel gamers to race through them as quickly as possible, rarely stopping to enjoy the scenery, but Vice City is the total opposite. It's a game you want to soak in; a game you want to take in slowly and enjoy every moment. I can't tell you how many times I was heading for one of the "main" missions and simply decided to go another route and explore some corner of Vice City. Maybe I wanted to see if I could actually make that jump across the river, or climb to the top of that building, or simply see how much trouble I could get into. If you haven't been to Vice City yet, pack your bags -- it's a trip you won't soon forget.
PlayStation 2GameSpy (Nov 05, 2002)
In 2001, Rockstar Games shook up the gaming world as forcefully as Muhammad Ali shook up the boxing world in 1964. Its Grand Theft Auto III served up an experience that gamers never imagined they could have. Its open-ended gameplay and living world gave players a new sense of freedom that raised the bar for games. Furthermore it was the first game to offer mature content with compelling and original gameplay. In short, it was a landmark title that changed the perception of what a game could be. Roughly one year later, Rockstar returns for an encore. While more of an update than a true sequel, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City serves up a broader, deeper, and more addictive version of the brilliance found in its predecessor. And while it isn't quite perfect and the graphics show some age, it's clearly one of the best games released in 2002.
PlayStation 2Gaming Target (Nov 05, 2002)
Grand Theft Auto 3 really came out of nowhere. While those in the know were under an impression the game would be something special, many people didn’t really pay attention, given the low quality of the first 2 GTA games. But when the game came out, it immediately started selling – and still hasn’t stopped, racking up 7 million sold copies in the US and Europe, and still going strong to this day.
PlayStation 2games xtreme (Nov 17, 2002)
I’ve said a lot in this review, though the truth is I haven’t scratched the surface of the game. The game not only looks like the 80’s but it feels like the 80’s. This is simply the best game ever, well, until the next one comes out.
PlayStation 2Insert Credit (Nov 13, 2002)
Game of the year? I'm not going to say anything yet. As it stands, it's going to be tough to beat Kingdom Hearts.
PlayStation 2Game Vortex (2002)
As it stands, however, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is an extremely fun game and should provide hours of entertainment for its target audience. (and hours... and hours...)
PlayStation 2Game Chronicles (Dec 21, 2002)
Vice City is without a doubt one of the best games of 2002 and if you own a PS2 you should make this a part of your permanent game library. What few flaws I can find with the game design are more nuisances than actual bugs and easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things. Sony has an exclusive deal for this game until 2003 so don’t hold out for a PC port anytime soon. Grab your copy and start building your empire today.
PlayStation 2PSX Extreme (Nov 04, 2002)
It's one of the best games of the year, no doubt, and anybody who denies the game that much is a tree-smoking psychopath. It looks wonderful, considering the amount of things the game engine is simultaneously doing. It plays like a dream, and the story is good enough to rival even the best Mafioso film out there. With voice acting and a soundtrack like Vice City's, you just can't go wrong. Vice City is yet another PS2 title that will go down in the record and history books.
PlayStation 2GameZone (Nov 10, 2002)
When it made its debut a long while back on the PSOne, the gaming community never really paid close attention to the Grand Theft Auto series until the third installment was released for the PS2. With a massive following, Grand Theft Auto 3 managed to hook gamers in with its huge city where you can go anywhere, kill anyone and steal any car that just happens to catch your eye--and to top it all off, the game was just too much fun to put down. So you can imagine the anticipation of PS2 owners everywhere when Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was announced. Guess what, fellow carjackers, the hour has come.
PlayStation 2PGNx Media (Oct 30, 2002)
This is, wihtout question, the best and most ambitious game of the year, and it is also one that everyone should play before Lieberman gets his old throat to Congress. I have played 2,600 games in my fourteen-year career as a gamer, and this is, without question, one of the greatest experiences I have ever had.
PlayStation 2GamingTrend (2002)
In some ways Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is more of the same, but it is also bigger and better than Grand Theft Auto 3 in my opinion. The missions are more varied and the inclusion of ownership of properties just put this game higher than its precursor. This game has the same open-ended gameplay of GTA3, but it may seem too much of the same for many people. The key question is if unending hours of new things with the same type of ideas is a hindrance or not. I highly recommend this game, but I think it will be hard for it to get Game of the Year given it is an overall upgrade. It will easily win Soundtrack of the Year though.
PlayStation (Nov 19, 2002)
Grand Theft Auto 3 pudotti aikanaan leuan lattiaan, ja minäkin luulin ettei sitä voisi enää mainittavasti parantaa. Vice City saa sen kuitenkin näyttämään lähinnä tekniikkademolta. GTA3:n erinomaiseen runkoon on lisätty oikea juoni, sijoitettu koko kertomus mehevän kliseiseen 80-luvun ilmapiiriin ja keitos maistuu äärettömän maukkaalta. Pelattuaan pari päivää ei enää yhtään ihmettele myyntiennätysten rikkoutumista. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on paitsi uskomaton ohjelmointitekninen suoritus myös erinomaisesti kirjoitettu peli, jota pelatessa tuntee useammin kuin kerran todella olevansa sisällä pelin maailmassa. Näitä pelejä varten pistetaulukon yläpää on tehty.
PlayStation 2Game Over Online (Dec 12, 2002)
Overall, Rockstar North has managed to do something that few companies can: take a hit series, innovate it and the entire genre that it exists in, then do even better with its follow-ups. But apparently, Vice City’s recipe for success seemed to be rather simple. Add one awesome cast, seven helpings of amazing music, heavy dashes of addictive gameplay and plenty of missions, and you’ve got enough game to serve the world a great gaming experience. This is one of the crown jewels of the PS2, and if you have that system, you are obligated to own this title. But don’t just take my word for it. Get a copy, sit down and start playing. I’ll guarantee you’ll become addicted.
PlayStation 2IGN (Oct 28, 2002)
I've been reminiscing about the past recently. Last year's onslaught of AAA games had us staggering with delight -- and exhaustion -- when the year finally came to a close. In comparison, this year's lineup of games, well, it initially looked stunning, before the delays anyway. But now it's clear what 2002 is all about. Like a co-worker of mine said a few weeks ago, there's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and there's everything else. The biggest, most anticipated game of 2002 is upon us, and a large population of the gaming public has come to a halt as Rockstar North has slaved away to finish its second massive blockbuster just one year after GTAIII lit the videogame world on fire. And now it's here. It's finally here.

WindowsGamers' Temple, The (2003)
The gameplay is so open-ended and enjoyable, you'll find yourself playing the game for hours and coming back to it again and again. One word of warning though, if you haven't guessed it yet the game is quite violent. You'll do plenty of killing in the game, using a variety of weapons including guns, cars, golf clubs, katanas, and chainsaws. The violence is constrained to splashes of cartoon-like red blood, with the exception being head shots which cause the victim's head to disappear and blood to spurt from the neck. It's definitely not for kids, but you'll see far more graphic and stomach-turning violence in many mainstream movies these days than you will here.
If you aren't offended by the sex and violence of a typical Hollywood movie, you really should play this game.
PlayStation (Feb 05, 2006)
PlayStation (Dec 24, 2002)
Fortunately, GTA: Vice City is one game that not only lives up to the hype, but also manages to surpass it. The game is much larger and more engrossing then the previous title, and manages to create an open world unlike any other in a video game. Yes, there are a couple of small niggles, but this is the essential purchase this year. If you don't already have it, what are you waiting for?
PlayStation 2GameSpot (Oct 28, 2002)
Last year, Grand Theft Auto III took the world by surprise. While the first two games in the series had a small, hard-core following, their simple 2D graphics and lack of a focused narrative structure limited their appeal. On the other hand, GTAIII featured a massive, clockwork world that was really impressive to behold, and it refined its predecessors' free-roaming, nonlinear design and added a far more compelling story in the process. Those improvements, coupled with amazing vehicle physics, a surprising amount of variety in the gameplay, and a great sense of style, made GTAIII a runaway hit and one of the rare games that is accepted by both hard-core and casual game players alike.
Windowsgames xtreme (Jun 09, 2003)
Overall Vice City is the best. Better than GTA3 in almost every area. Loading times are down, it now takes less time to access different areas of the city and even get into the game and there are more hidden packages and vigilante missions to complete. If you loved GTA3 you’ll definitely love Vice City! Rockstar have definitely improved GTA3 and I’m in no doubt that the next GTA game will be even better. All of the additions are well worth the asking price!

PlayStation 2PlayFrance (May 04, 2003)
WindowsGame Vortex (2003)
Considering the 1980's as a part of nostalgic past could make some people feel slightly older than they wish they were. Nevertheless, GTA: Vice City takes advantage of the eighties feel and atmosphere and delivers an experience like no other. The days of The Godfather, Goodfellas, and other popular action crime flicks have been numbered with the emergence of Grand Theft Auto. The experience is unique and the game play is golden. If you haven't already shelled out the two hundred dollars for a PS2, your wait has been rewarded. If you have already purchased the game before, however, you will probably want to pick this one up again anyway.
WindowsGameZone (Jun 02, 2003)
Vice City is one of those rare games that effortlessly combines atmosphere, engaging gameplay, and great graphics and sound to make a truly unique gaming experience. The violence level is a little high, but those who don’t have a problem with video game violence will undoubtedly enjoy Vice City. If you haven’t already played it on the PS2, then grab a copy of Vice City on the PC ASAP.

All in all this is a definite step up from an already well designed and programmed game, and must go down as one of the best games this year, if not the decade, it looks amazing and even better, plays like it looks, the non-linear gameplay works very well, and I doubt you’ll find yourself bored with the radio stations anytime soon either. There’s not much more to say other then if you don’t already have this game, buy it!!
PlayStation 2Power Unlimited (Dec, 2002)
WindowsPC Zone (Jul 04, 2003)
As we've experienced two GTA games in two years, you can actually forget how daring the whole franchise is: bad language, police murders, prostitution, illegal narcotics, porno movies, bloody chainsaw killings, scathing social criticism, political corruption, the sanctioned destruction of innocent people's property and possessions, and an amoral playable character. But after all that, Rockstar's latest is just damn good fun and a must-buy even if you have GTA III. Vice City is a title that has defined a generation - a videogame that's hugely entertaining and cool as f**k.
PlayStation 2PAL Gaming Network (PALGN) (Jan 29, 2003)
So, is Vice City good for you? There’s a simple answer to that. If you loved GTA3 and want more, Vice City is for you. If you hated GTA3 and never want to see it again, definitely avoid this game. But, most people seem to fall under the former category. Buy this game.
PlayStation 2Gamers' Temple, The (2002)
Vice City has a great foundation to build on with GTA3. From it Rockstar has built a game that has even more character than the original, and made Vice City even more lively and interesting than Liberty City. The game is well enough designed that it feels like a new experience rather than more of the same from GTA3. The minor problems present in the original game still persist, but they are not big enough to bring the game down. If you liked GTA3, then you'll love Vice City. If for some reason you didn't, then there is not enough new here to change your mind.
PlayStation 2TotalPlayStation (Nov 25, 2002)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City belongs in every PS2 gamer's collection (surely those who can accept that this IS a game, not reality) and is right along side GTA3 as the most enormous and realistic game to hit the gaming industry.
PlayStation 2Armchair Empire, The (Dec 29, 2002)
Omni had the pleasure of reviewing Metroid Prime and giving AE’s first perfect 10 of the holiday season, and I’d like nothing more than to add a second one to the round-up. Unfortunately, the slight frame rate problem and the repetitiveness of some of the missions keeps GTA Vice City from that lofty height. Still, it is a fine game, one of the best on the system, and anyone who doesn’t own it can consider their collection suspect.

Hyväntuulista ja viihdyttävää kaahailua, rötöstelyä, anarkiaa ja kaikenkattavaa moraalittomuutta kahdeksankymmentäluvulla.

+ Hyvää
• Tyylikäs ja elävä 80-luvun suurkaupunkimiljöö.
• Hillittömän hieno ja hauska ääniraita.
• Vapaata ja käsikirjoitettua rikollisuutta yhdistelevä konsepti.

- Huonoa
• Kävellessä kuvakulma heittelee holtittomasti.
• Entistä useampi tehtävä edellyttää kävelemistä.
WindowsAtomic Gamer (May 19, 2003)
The PC version of Vice City is just as much fun as the original, with great frame rates, better graphics, more control options, and all the content that made the PS2 version an instant classic. There are a few bugs that made it into the final release, and the helicopter controls are ghastly, but that shouldn't stop you from going out and picking this one up - as long as your computer is fast enough to run it, that is.
WindowsGameguru Mania (May 21, 2003)
Is GTA: Vice City worth your hard earned money? The answer is surprisingly simple, if you don't already have the PS2 version, definitely yes, because gameplay is superb and the game has really incredible replay value. This game is even better the GTA3. I totally love the atmosphere and the game rocks!
WindowsGame Chronicles (Jun 22, 2003)
Vice City is without a doubt one of the best PC games of 2003 and you should make this a part of your permanent game library immediately. What few flaws I can find with the game design are more nuisances than actual bugs and easily overlooked in the grand scheme of things. Grab your copy and start building your empire today.
WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands) (May 30, 2003)
PlayStation 2Atomic Gamer (Nov 11, 2002)
If for some reason you didn't like Grand Theft Auto 3, there's still a chance that you may enjoy Vice City. While this is a more difficult game than the last one, it is still packed with a ton of cool stuff to do; this game is worth every penny even if you only complete a quarter of the game's story missions. Add to that the excellent main character, ultra-violent storyline, and the truckloads of 80's atmosphere, and I find that it's difficult to go wrong with Vice City.
PlayStation 2NZGamer (Apr 18, 2004)
Overall Vice City is a huge game, allowing the player to go anywhere and do anything. With hidden packages to find, rampages to pass and hundreds of missions to attempt, Vice City will have very long lasting appeal to gamers and will be on the shelves for a long time to come.
PlayStation 2Digital Entertainment News (den) (Aug 03, 2003)
Okay, so the improved graphics look a bit pedestrian, but that’s just us maturing into what we expect from PS2 games. Make no mistake, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City improves on the new standard set by last year’s model, GTA3, while offering up what may be the largest soundtrack and most star-studded voice cast for any videogame in memory ... even Square’s Kingdom Hearts! Of course, the two game’s are rated for different audiences (GTA:VC’s for adults), so get Kingdom Hearts for your kids and when they go to bed, pop in this one for yourself!
PlayStation (Nov 08, 2002)
PlayStation (Nov 08, 2002)
All in all, not a revolution from the original, nor entirely perfect (can any game be?), but without question one of the finest releases of the year, and, one must suspect, one of the PS2's finest games to date. A veritable tour de force of design richness and diversity.
WindowsGame Over Online (Jun 10, 2003)
I personally see Vice City as very near the perfect game. It’s engrossing, has a speedy learning curve, and is packed with action. You can play for just an hour, or be sucked in for hours on end. Though I have to warn you that several times I intended to play for just an hour, only to find myself several hours past with no idea where the time had gone. I suppose with a great game, that’s always a risk.
WindowsWorth Playing (Jun 09, 2003)
There’s a reason that GTAIII and Vice City are the highest selling videogames of all time, and it’s not because of their inherent violent nature (though decapitation by chainsaw is always a plus). Oh, no. Vice City shines thanks to its exceptionally deep and satisfying game play, an aspect that is all too commonly overlooked. Of course, Rockstar North also piled on enormous amounts of top-notch production values, which only serves to sweeten the deal, but in the end it’s the game play that makes the game. Until I see senator Lieberman actually play a mission in Vice City, or complete an insane stunt challenge, his argument that the game should be rated “banned” will be met with an instinctively-produced and unflinching one-finger salute.
WindowsGameSpot (May 23, 2003)
After the incredible success of GTAIII, it was difficult to imagine Scotland-based developer Rockstar North following up with a comparably outstanding game, especially after just one year. But that's what Vice City is. It's similar to GTAIII only as much as necessary, and it boasts so much new content and so many new types of vehicles to drive and exciting missions to experience that it is certainly not just an attempt to further cash in on GTAIII's success. No, this is an exceptionally good action game, whether you consider it on its own merits, or measure it against the incredibly high standards of its predecessor.
WindowsActionTrip (May 19, 2003)
In all honesty, I think there isn't a single gamer (hardcore or newbie) that won't find this game appealing. One thing that might stand out as a problem even now is the game's controversy and intense violence. Whatever. GTA: Vice City is a fictional parody of life and it perpetuates the arcade gameplay style we all know very well from the previous GTA game. From my point of view, these issues are the reason why this franchise stays so popular worldwide. Despite of what some of us think about such controversial works of art, there's always that urge for absolute in-game realism. In the end, people soon become fed up with fantasies and fairytales... It all boils down to a simple desire for games and movies that mimic real life. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is just a video game, as Pulp Fiction and the Fight Club are just movies. The fact that they shock and startle some people, only proves their worth. This is why they are "M" rated, I guess.
WindowsIGN (May 22, 2003)
Discounting Grand Theft Auto 3, there's no other game that offers anything like the experience you'll have with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game of fast cars and ruthless criminals packs more action and excitement into the first few hours than can be found in the entirety of most games. Released almost a full year after the previous version (and right during E3 -- thanks, Rockstar), there are a number of compelling, albeit minor, changes to the model that captivated us so much last year. I played through a lot of the game on the PS2 and have been hard at work this past week playing through it once again on the PC.

You play the role of Tommy Vercetti, a member of the Forelli clan that just got back on the streets of Liberty City after being locked up for fifteen years. Your boss, Sonny Forelli, is a bit nervous about you being free and sends you down south to Vice City. Your first deal goes horribly wrong and you are left behind without money and with a fairly pissed godfather. What follows is a great adventure in the 1980’s set in a Miami Vice style.

PlayStation 2Gamer's Pulse (Nov 20, 2002)
Vice City is a larger and spicier serving of GTA3 with some minor, though beneficial, trimmings. More vehicles, more weapons, a larger environment and refined mission system all contribute to make an already entirely compelling experience even better. Vice City isn’t a sequel, but then again it doesn’t need to be; the ambitious open-ended design and top-notch gameplay of GTA3 hasn’t been exhausted yet, and with a few more additions Rockstar may even eke another less-than-sequel out of the series with positive results. Some minor technical issues along with a disjointed narrative keep this one from a perfect score.
WindowsPC Action (May 30, 2003)

GTA III took the violence, prostitution, and racist humor to a new level, though resulted in laws restricting the game to be sold in some states, as well as creating stricter, more rigorous ratings from the ESRB. That didn’t stop Rockstar from creating another addition with twice the violence, three times the prostitutes, and of course…hot chicks on roller blades.

PlayStation 2The Video Game Critic (Dec 08, 2002)
This highly anticipated title really lives up to the hype. It builds on the solid gameplay of the previous edition, but this time the story is more interesting and the scenery is incredible. But above all, Vice City has style.
WindowsCanadianGamer (Jul 02, 2003)
So on careful inspection, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is nothing short of a solid single-player game that is likely to take a place among your favourites. There's plenty of things to like about this game: high-speed chases with a large amount of vehicles to choose from, lots of blood and violence, gang fights and the possibility of driving a tank through the city streets. The amount of missions will definitely make the game last, so if you are looking for a good single-player game, moreover, if you enjoyed GTA 3, you just have to have this game.
PlayStation 2Gaming Age (Oct 31, 2002)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City puts the word sequel to shame. Rockstar Games has really taken the time to put together a game that not only fits in perfectly in the GTA universe, but ups the ante for itself and others as well. It would have been all too easy to make a few minor upgrades and still have a best-selling product, but instead they pushed themselves to really take it to the next page. Full marks to Rockstar North and Rockstar Games for not worrying about the so-called controversy from hand-wringing parents, bed-wetting leftists and opportunistic politicians, and supplying mature gamers with a title that was crafted especially for them. In an industry where all too often publishers take the easy way out, Vice City stands as an example of what the next chapter in a series should provide, and earns full marks doing so.
WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Jun 27, 2003)

Vice City doesn’t deviate too far from the award-winning formula set out by Grand Theft Auto 3, but it introduces enough extra features to keep things fresh. Better yet, the seamless amalgamation of all things ’80s into the mix lets the creative team go wild with the vocal work and provide an outstanding retro soundtrack. As with the last outing, there’s lots to do in Vice City, and if you decide to purchase an extensive network of cover businesses, there’s easily as much content here as when you explored Liberty City. Overall, the changes haven’t revolutionized the series or introduced entirely different concepts, but they have opened up new options and new vehicle types, and Vice City still manages to capture the magic of Grand Theft Auto 3. Chock up another PS2 must-have for Rockstar.

Spela spelet i stället.

Radio an, Gaspedal durchgetreten – tschüss, Realität!

All in all the game, as you’ve probably already guessed, is amazing - and whilst the complex and convoluted freedom the game offers may be somewhat confusing and daunting to those who’ve yet to experience the GTA phenomenon, this is one game that all PC gamers should come to know and love. Even if you do find yourself dieing a few times, this is quite some game and one that other titles will be trying to mimic for years to come. You can even buy property in Vice City as your wealth grows - in some games this would be the whole point – but in Vice City it’s just something you can do for fun and it is this freedom to explore, experience and explode that will surely make Rockstar a few more million fans (and quid) with this conversion.

PlayStation 2Games TM (Dec, 2002)
While Vice City essentially follows the same template of GTA3, where you work for bosses and assert your power over a city, it feels like a more complete, larger experience. Admittedly, the 'on foot' sections could have done with a slight tweak and auto-aiming for hand-to-hand combat would have been a definite boon. But take away these minor problems and you've still got a phenomenal piece of all round entertainment that surely must act as a wake up call to all other console game publishers on the planet.

Buy it because you can chop off heads with a chainsaw or mow down ignorant innocents without fear of jail time. Buy it because you can purchase a strip club and get a free private dance from semi-nude women. Although there's no multiplayer support, the game doesn't really suffer because of it. There's always something to do, be that a mission or even just putting out fires with the fire truck or running taxi fares throughout the city. BUY this game, sell your granny if you have to, but it's just an essential purchase!
PlayStation 2Cincinnati Enquirer (Nov 12, 2002)

While GTA: VC has met significant resistance from parent led groups and conservative politicians for its morally objectionable themes, it has managed to attract critical praise for its open-ended gameplay, unique story line, and incredibly fun control. The game is thoroughly enjoyable, and with its huge map and high production value it really is a must-own game for any PS2 owner over the age of 17 (of course).
PlayStation 2Console Obsession (2002)
Rest assured, Vice City will help you through long winter nights, hot summer days or even a nuclear fallout. It doesn’t have that same “wow”-effect as the previous GTA but it certainly comes close with many innovative elements and stunning gameplay.

I am not going to rant on about how much I was disappointed by this game. I am not going to say this game should be overlooked because it doesn't deserve the sales it achieves I am going to leave it at this. If you feel justified for paying 50 bucks for an expansion pack then by all means have at it. In my opinion this game should have come out at 30 bucks and been an add-on for GTA 3, anyone remember London 1969 add-on for GTA? I didn't think so, most people think GTA 3 was the first game in the series. This game is a solid purchase and deserves to be a good seller. Best game ever? Not even close, any good? You bet your ass!

It has the right blend of intense gameplay, an intricate place to explore, several hours of gameplay, a great selection of 80’s era music, a wonderful (if not a little cliched) story, and one of the most memorable antiheroes to ever set foot on the gaming scene. While so many other games eventually die off and fall into obscurity, the appeal of Vice City does not fade away; this is one game that will keep you coming back for more, long after you’ve saved Tommy from his impending doom and taken the city for yourself. Who said that living in the past is a bad thing?

Vice City provides so many avenues of gameplay it's difficult to get bored. The soundtrack is also great: many 80s classics that even younger twentysomethings will recognise. Sometimes you will do an extra lap of the block before getting out of the car, just to hear the end of the song. Sad, I know. The only real problem with Vice City is its competition: The Getaway. The future of violent gangster gameplay looks secure. As long as the developers keep out-doing each other, we'll keep playing the games. Oh, and Ray Liotta supplies the voiceover. For anyone who might want more, we can only point you in the PC Version's direction where, just like GTAIII there are all manner of modifications and adjustments to almost every facet of the game if you've completed the storyline.

Pin-pointing exactly what it is we love so much about Vice City is hard, simply because there is so much. It transcends the very genre it once created, encompassing driving, shooting, exploration, adventure, old-school point scoring and even collect 'em ups, what with the ability to buy up property across the city alongside the traditional package-finding. Sorry to have to go back to that old adage of having a complete "toy set" to play with, but it's hard to actually emphasise just how true that is. Even if there are a few kinks in this new PC version, it's still wonderful.

Imagine getting flung back twenty years to the Miami Vice era: big hair, pastel suits, and excess beyond anything this country has ever known. Tommy Vercetti, Mafioso ex-con from Liberty City, gets sent down to Vice City to oversee a drug deal when something goes terribly wrong. He's been set up, and both the money and the drugs have been taken. Vercetti has to find out who set him up and get even - and becomes a major Vice City crime lord along the way.

PlayStation 2Netjak (Nov 12, 2002)
When a game bursts onto the scene as, erm, violently as Grand Theft Auto 3 did last year, you leave people chomping at the bit waiting for a sequel. Some of you have been chomping at the bit so much, that there isn't any bit left. Not even a bit of bit. So, when it came time for the game to be released everyone here at Netjak had a review ready, or wanted to get one ready. Except me.

As you play it more and more you'll realize they rushed it out, maybe to earn something more before going seriously into developing GTA 4. The few innovations are very welcomed but the bugs and some really tough missions can quickly destroy the first impression. There were moments when I felt that if I hadn't spend a fortune on my computer I would have thrown it outside and I'm really seeing the world from above, from the 8th floor. On the other hand I think I'd go nuts without games like GTA.

Overall, this is a must have if you?re a Playstation 2 owner. Even though it has violence, explicit language, and adult themes it still is one of the best games out there. The ever addicting gameplay and millions of hours you?ll spend on doing anything at any time in the game will keep you happy for years. With an awesome soundtrack and good graphics to back it up, there shouldn?t be a reason not to play the game (well, besides age, maybe).
PlayStation 2Lawrence (Mar 18, 2003)
Rockstar tried very hard to keep this game fresh. The helicopter addition was fantastic, and they knew what they were doing by allowing you access to the entire city all at once, a fantastic feat considering its size. And despite how much I appreciate all of these additions, I can't help but question the value of the purchase. Despite the additional flash, the game remains the same.
PlayStation (Mar 13, 2003)
The incredible success of Grand Theft Auto III didn't leave developer Rockstar poor, this controversial game is still ranked high in international charts. Reasons enough to make a sequel ASAP and so GTA : Vice City was born. Dark Liberty City is replaced by Vice City, a town inspired by Miami. The sun, the sea, the beach and a whole lot of guns, what does a man want more ... (red. eurm *cough* sex *cough*)
WindowsGameplay (Benelux) (May 30, 2003)
Party on...
PlayStation 2Gamers Europe (Jan 23, 2003)
To me, GTA:VC is same old, same old. Nothing about it screams out to me. Everything I need for any GTA addiction would be found in GTA III. Vice City just takes that title, polishes it and chucks in an 80's theme. Many will argue that Vice City is a much better game than GTA III, but chances are that they also like Blinx and Spyro. No offence. Hardcore fans stick to GTA III, fanboy's of the title can pick it up just to extend the life of GTA III and mothers everywhere should avoid buying this title for their children. What's the final verdict? Vice City is a major let down. But since they have motorcycles and helicopters I shall let it slide. Until Vice City 2, happy playing folks!
PlayStation 2Edge (Nov 27, 2002)
If this game was a car it wouldn’t be an entirely new model, but last year’s with an ostentatious spoiler on the back and a clutch of other bells and whistles that would no doubt impress passers by. Like a TVR, mechanical faults are evident, but it remains a formidable experience.
PlayStation 2Retrogaming History (Oct 01, 2009)
PlayStation 2Bordersdown (Dec 29, 2005)
Casuals, eh? They’re the foundation of the games-playing industry, it’s their wallets the publishers are aiming for, yet some would argue that the massive influence they wield is as dangerous and undeserving as the man who currently sits across the pond, in the White House, and on top of a large nuclear arsenal.
80 Games (Jul 07, 2003)
WindowsFactornews (May 22, 2003)
PlayStation 2GamesFirst! (Dec 20, 2002)
Will you enjoy Vice City? Yes, assuming you liked GTA III; Vice City is, after all, more of everything the same, bigger and more. The 80’s theme livens things up even for those saturated with GTA III; on the other hand, there certainly isn’t anything here we haven’t seen before—for better and for worse.
iPhoneIGN (Dec 18, 2012)
It’s obvious a lot of care and attention went into this 10th anniversary port. The flexible control options, improved visuals and features like custom soundtrack support and cloud saves are all very welcome. Running around Vice City wreaking havoc on your tiny mobile device is impressive and can still be very fun. But Vice City is 10 years old. and it shows. And playing with touch controls, refined through they may be, is not an ideal way to experience Rockstar’s classic.
PlayStation 2Gaming Nexus (Nov 07, 2002)
Grand Theft Auto Vice City isn’t for everyone though and if GTA3 failed to hold your interest, I recommend you stay away from this one. However, if you were one of the millions who succumbed to the addictive nature of the series then you’ll definitely want to pick this one up. While there is a lot to loathe about the game the goods far outweigh the bad. Rockstar has successfully carried the torch in this year’s iteration to deliver an amazing game that really does live up to the hype. They have refined many of the game’s aspects, delivering a title that is much more polished and pristine than we could have ever imagined. There’s enough depth here to drown a bus full of Mormons and in the end, isn’t that what we’ve always wished for? Now excuse me while I hit these hoes up for some cash.

PlayStation 2Game Critics (Nov 06, 2002)
Fans of the GTA series, especially the third one, should get this. It improves on almost every single aspect of the previous game, despite the fighting, targeting and camera system still being as stiff and awkward as ever. Anyone expecting a matured plot may be disappointed, but not completely. The plot is greatly enhanced thanks to Tommy Vercetti having a voice, the plot twists are actually interesting and character development exists, as opposed to the non-existent character development of GTA3. All the characters are colorful stereotypes of their respective ethnicity and social standing, and are much more memorable this time around. Fans of the 80s, especially the music, should eat this one up. And if anything, riding the two-wheeled vehicles makes it all worthwhile.
