In Hotel Giant 2, the player is responsible for managing a hotel. As usual with these kind of games, the first step is to furnish the rooms. The player has about 1400 fixtures to their disposal to construct all necessary rooms, e.g. the hotel room, the reception or the restaurant. The game also saves a finished room and uses this template for all other rooms of the same type. Of course, players will also have to hire employees, like cleaners or service personnel.
When the hotel opens its doors, most of the time is spent micromanaging, attending to the customers' complaints and expanding the hotel with luxury like swimming pools. The game is basically played in real-time but can be paused at any time. It also offers hotel locations in different countries with small differences; for example, French customers will want better food while American ones will look for more fitness rooms. Besides the freeplay mode, there are a sandbox mode where the player can experiment with existing flourishing hotels, and a campaign where they need to reach certain goals in existing hotels.
