Ice Age: Arctic Blast

Ice Age: Arctic Blast is a match-three puzzle game based on the Ice Age animated movie franchise. It takes elements from the franchise in general, but also references the then upcoming movie Ice Age: Collision Course for some levels and characters. The game's levels have the typical boards filled with gems in the tradition of the Bejeweled series. Using swipes two gems can switch positions, either horizontally or vertically. If a straight line of three identical gems or more is recreated, it is a match, points are scored, they disappear from the board, and new gems take their place. A match of four gems creates a gem that can be matched to clear an entire column and five gems introduces Manny the mammoth to match and remove all gems of that type on the board.

More unusual gem combination are a square to create a piranha. The piranha can then be used to draw a line that connects gems of the same type in an adjacent position (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) to eat them from the board. Multiple piranhas can be connected to create strings of different gems. An L-shape create a lightning gem that can be matched to create an explosion that removes all gems in a radius. There is a linear series of levels where up to three stars can be scored based on the total score to keep progressing. Next to reaching a certain score, sometimes acorns need to be matched to break the ice and expand the board, or snow need to be removed by creating matches in adjacent positions. In some levels certain gems or items need to be matched with a limited amount of moves. In some of those snowballs are present and these can be matched to fill a meter and activate a multiplier, which makes it easier to reach the amount to collect.

The game is free-to-play and uses acons as a premium currency to buy power-ups to use during the game, boosters to use before starting the game as well as to refill the hearts for the energy/stamina system. A power-up is for instance the Scrat Attack that removes a single gem from the board or the Mini Sloths to remove and entire column. A booster is for instance five additional moves. A social element includes connecting to friends through Facebook to track their position on the map, and help by sending lives power-ups and other gifts.
