Infernal is in my opinion the best attempt yet to make adventure games appeal to a mainstream audience because it does not achieve this by 'dumbing-down' the plot or puzzles for action fans. It merely uses action as an added element. It is this that makes the game a classic and a worthy addition to the Indy series. I loved every moment from start to finish, and rest assured there is a lot of game in between start and finish!

Indy's latest outing is his best yet. It was going to take something special to better Fate of Atlantis, and LucasArts haven't disappointed. The sheer size of the levels and the variety of the terrain within is awesome. You get a real feeling of being part of a big blockbuster movie. The plot is excellently woven, and unfolds beautifully from level to level.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine will probably not appeal to many players. Most Quest/Adventure lovers will probably keep very well away from it, and with complete justification. Actioneers will probably turn their noses up at it since it is doubtless inferior to many others of its genre. True Indy groupies (like me) may play it, but even they may be disappointed since it lacks the charm and charisma of previous Indiana Jones computer games, to say nothing of the movies. It is not truly bad and can certainly fill in very many absorbing hours of gaming time; but it lacks the magic touch and originality that LucasArts have so often provided in the past.

I wanted to give this game a 90, I really did! But despite the fact that Indiana Jones fans will have a whip-crackin' good time (especially on the secret level), the background graphics are gorgeous, and it has kept me running back to play one more round, it just isn't different enough. It reminds me of how much I enjoyed discovering things in the first Tomb Raider (and in MY mind, that is an amazing feat), but this game just doesn't introduce anything unique enough to rate it at 90. I will keep watch out for the next Indiana Jones game and give this one an 89.

People are still going to compare it to Tomb Raider, but what would you rather play, a Star Wars space sim or an equally good space sim featuring indeterminate aliens? Well, exactly. Indiana Jones is more than worthy of bearing its quality name. It has the same sense of spectacular adventure that makes the films so much fun. You'll find yourself humming the theme tune on public transport and getting the sort of looks usually reserved for Tourette's sufferers. I haven't managed to complete it yet, but I'm willing to cut down my time playing System Shock 2 and CM3 until I have. And if that's not recommendation enough, I don't know what is.

Wonderful game, Far Better than one other game that's very similar (no names mentioned), Small problems in the game don't take too much away and makes it a great game that will last for a while!

Nintendo 6464 Power / big.N / N Games (Feb, 2001)

It's a little too much like what we've seen before, and lacks the "wow" factor in the graphics department, but Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine brings a few new tricks to the party and is probably the best action/adventure game of its style.

WindowsGameStar (Germany) (Dec, 1999)

A first-class effort from LucasArts. The level design and puzzles show a lot of forethought.

The bottom line is that if you've ever found yourself even remotely interested in Tomb Raider, Indiana Jones, or puzzle-solving action-adventure games, this is the best one Nintendo 64 will ever get, and it's a fine one to have in any library. Nab it before it's too late.

Indiana, or Indy as known to his friends, is an archaeologist and an adventurer. He carries a whip and a gun as weapons, dressed in this trademark dark brown leather jacket with a fedora on his head. In addition to the silver screen, Indy’s adventures have also taken flight in many computer and console games from LucasArts. Sadly, since Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, there has not been another game in the Indiana Jones series in the last 7 years. Project leader Hal Barwood has not decided on another sequel until he can make a game that can do Lucas’ character justice. Now, finally, LucasArts has released the highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and I believe Barwood has achieved his goal. The game may not be the best adventure game in the traditional sense, but it is among the best action adventure games that I have ever played.

The year is 1947. The Second World War is over. The two great superpowers have now begun the Cold War and the Soviets are in search of the legendary Tower of Babel. The CIA wants to know what they are looking for, and have recruited Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr. to find out. And so begins a globe-spanning adventure to discover the mysterious "Infernal Machine".

Podsumowując, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine jest całkiem dobrą przygodówką.

In any event, Indy does provide a good Tomb Raider experience, at the cost of somewhat confusing controls, slightly over-challenging puzzles and long load times. An above average rating of 3 1/2 GiN Gems is appropriate this fun-and-challenging game.

Proceed with caution if you plan on renting this game. It’s going to take you a while to get through the entire title, and not just because the game is so large. Good luck with those pesky 18-inch ledges.

WindowsGameSpot (Dec 08, 1999)
In final analysis, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is a decent 3D action game that suffers from control problems and puzzles that quickly grow old and repetitive. Tomb Raider fans may enjoy the look and feel of the game, and die-hard Indy fans should get a kick out of the archaeologist's first 3D game, but anyone expecting a pure combination of action and adventure will likely be disappointed.

WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW) (Feb, 2000)
It’s got all the worst aspects of the game: overly fussy controls. lots of saving and restoring, a difficult action you’ve got to do over and over, and a fundamental misunderstanding of what does and doesn’t fit in the world of Indiana Jones. Fortunately. scenes like this one are in the minority. Most of what the game contains does fit and, hell, you get used to the controls. For a certain generation of gamers — who have had their Star Wars fantasies fulfilled for years but never their Indiana Jones fantasies — playing even this imperfect specimen of a game will feel like finding a great treasure.

Nintendo 64GameSpot (Dec 22, 2000)
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is a big game, to be sure, with enough levels to keep you busy over a three-day rental period. The puzzles within them aren't very original or entertaining, but seeing that this is the only Tomb Raider-style game to come to the Nintendo 64, it deserves at least a little leeway. Video game players went so long without an Indiana Jones game that they had to start going to other sources for their tomb-raiding fix - except for N64 owners. And they'll find that there's at least enough fun to be had by renting this game that they'll be able to work it out of their system.

WindowsAdrenaline Vault, The (AVault) (Dec 17, 1999)
I am sorely disappointed with Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine. While I didn’t find the release suffering from technical woes, incompatibilities or bugs of any sort, I also didn’t find any compelling reason to play. With so many “me too” products already on the market, we certainly don’t need another one. This title fails to capture the swagger behind its own star. It does not live up to its namesake and delivers weak performances in level design and AI. It also has one of the worst interfaces of any offering in its genre. With Infernal Machine, LucasArts has left gamers wandering through the desert, searching for the lost art of adventure.

WindowsJust Adventure (2000)
So is Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine worth purchasing and playing? Sure, as long as you are willing to overlook its shortcomings. The Indiana Jones of the movies was always believable no matter what the situation. We never felt he was invincible, but neither did we feel he would perish when placed in a hopeless position (granted, much of this was due to Harrison Ford's charisma). The game fails in this respect as death and reloading become a common occurrence. His fear of snakes and his conscious decision to think his way out of a dangerous situation before using violence are conveniently forgotten when the story needs to be advanced. But the most glaring problem with Infernal is that it tries too hard to be as epic as the Indiana Jones movies, and a computer monitor cannot convey the large-scale scope of Indy's adventures as well as a movie theater screen. Though Indy, and Lara, may disagree--sometimes smaller is better.

Despite its first-rate license, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine was only made available as a Blockbuster rental - and for good reason! Infernal Machine's storyline is captivating enough, but its stage design is poor and its playability is rock bottom.
