The Video Game Critic (Sep 17, 2000)
Donkey Kong Jr. is more challenging that the original Donkey Kong, and requires a lot of technique. Most of junior's movements are sideways along vines as opposed to up and down. With four skill levels, Donkey Kong Jr for the Intellivision is always a good time.
At last count there were seven versions of Donkey Kong Junior: the arcade, tabletop, handheld, Coleco cart, Coleco Super Game, Atari 2600 and now, Intellivision. Since it's a complicated game with a lot of graphic elements, the most successful versions have been for the more powerful computers. The less successful (like this one) depend on the player's knowledge of the other versions. In my opinion, that's not a game that can stand on its own two feet— it's a rip-off.
