The irony of the name "Desktop Dungeons" is that the game is infinitely more suited to the iPad. It's the kind of game you can sit down to for a couple of minutes to make a train trip filled with stinking, noisy, teenagers more bearable (Sydney Trains, people, don't use them unless you've got a nose plug). But it's also a game you can sit down to for a couple of hours, or play in the background while watching TV or a film. It plays beautifully on iPad and has instantly shot to being one of my favourite games on the platform.

An accessible but massive roguelike that will suck you in and then murder you. But in a good way.

Players looking for a casual game to pick up and play throughout the week should look elsewhere for their bite-sized gaming addiction. But for players looking for a top-quality roguelike game experience for their iPad or Android tablet, Desktop Dungeons is just that.

Desktop Dungeons has made a pretty great effort to port their game to the iOS world, and it packs a lot of replay and problem solving into this app. If I were to make a list of things I wanted to have added, a save function for mid-dungeon pausing would be right at the top. As it is, sometimes closing the app for long periods means you have to start a dungeon over. As it is, I still really enjoyed my time planning out my victories over the big bad bosses that lurk in my desk… or my tablet I guess. If you like roguelikes, This is a solid pickup.

Desktop Dungeons is a great game that benefits from the mobility of tablets, although it still struggles to deliver bite-sized dungeon fun. Regardless, it's a game that should be on your tablet of choice.
