DescriptionGhosts of Mistwood is a persistent world game about a boy who visits his aunt Virginia at her Mistwood Estate. When he arrives she is nowhere to be found and various quests have to be completed to find her back. It soon turns out she has been captured by a dark spirit and he is assisted by the investigator David, the property managers, a ghost hunter and more characters. Eventually about six NPCs can be used to help you complete tasks. Quests usually consists of clicking on the required locations to progress. Completing them is rewarded with currencies such as blue stars, coins and gold, as well as experience. Various additional resources can be collected such as stardust or wildflowers. The game has a light horror theme and the boy meets various creatures such as ghosts that provide quests.
As with similar social games, players need to design the environment by building different structures, essentially rebuilding the entire estate. Structures can be placed anywhere in the provided space and it is possible to edit and rotate them. Initially a small amount of space is available, but it can be expanded by clearing the fog surrounding the area. This requires a certain amount of lantern oil. Building requires resources such as wood, acquired by chopping down trees or digging, and also a number of currencies. Items, decor, creatures and buildings can be bought from the in-game market. Construction requires a workhouse where various materials can be produced such as planks, panels, bundles and nails. These each require a certain amount of time to complete, as the game is meant to be played in short sessions. The same applies to the NPC characters that are sent out helping you.
Tasks can be sped up by purchasing the premium currency in-game for real money. Alternatively social features can be used to receive extra help, by requesting items from a Facebook friends or assisting their games a number of times.
