My only real complaint – and one that ironically serves as a testament to the game’s quality – is that I crave more levels. I’ve had a ton of fun returning to the ones available and aiming for perfection, but I’d be more than willing to pay another $2.99 for an additional 40 levels. And another 40 after that, even. Get on that, Ubisoft!

For people who've never experienced Rayman or those who have strayed from the series, this is an excellent (re)introduction. For those who've played Origins, this may feel a bit mechanically and aesthetically familiar. In the case of Rayman Jungle Run, familiarity isn't a bad thing, especially when it stems from creator Michel Ancel.

Rayman Jungle Run è un titolo che non dovrebbe mancare sui vostri smartphone. Perfetto per il gioco in mobilità, si compone di stage rapidi da affrontare ma sempre stimolanti, soprattutto per chi decide di dedicarsi anima e corpo alla raccolta dei Lum. Il sistema di gioco celebra il platform classico, concentrandosi sulle dinamiche di salto e richiedendo prontezza e precisione. Ma Rayman non rinuncia alla sua buona dose di modernità, concentrato tutto sulla corsa, sull'immediatezza, sul ritmo.

Rayman Jungle Run est probablement ce qui se fait de mieux en matière de jeu de plate-forme sur iOS. Grâce à un level design brillant, et un gameplay précis, affûté et exigeant, il démontre de manière éclatante qu'on peut faire des jeux à la fois simples et prenants, beaux et subtils à jouer. Pour tous les amateurs du genre, à posséder d'urgence.

Every generation, every platform has its few games that are worth buying the system specifically for. I can’t say that Jungle Run is worth buying an iOS device for, like how Legends may be worth buying a Wii U for (at least it is for me), but that’s because this micro Rayman title is a casual addition to the series, and that is precisely what it should be. Just like how Legends seems to fully utilise the capabilities of the Wii U, Jungle Run has done the exact same. The controls are incredibly simple; you could play the entire game with one finger. It has a consistent scoring system of 100 Lums (just like your common 3 star score), and, what I think is a must have in any iOS title, an ‘instantly restart level’ button. It’s as simple as it gets, beautiful as they come and the master of its platform.

Uno dei problemi principali del gaming su smartphone sta nella ricerca di replicare esperienze da console che poco hanno a che fare con le capacità degli schermi touch screen. Rayman Jungle Run è invece un prodotto molto intelligente, perchè è stato realizzato proprio per questo tipo di dispositivi. Certo, il suo gameplay può sembrare troppo semplice se affrontato in maniera "casual" è troppo legato al trial and error se invece si punta alla raccolta di tutti i lum, ma considerando il prezzo e la durata complessiva, Rayman Jungle Run si riesce ad apprezzare e portare a termine prima che tali "difetti" inizino a dare fastidio. E poi, con una grafica del genere, c'è ben poco di cui lamentarsi.

Hopefully the quality of Rayman Jungle Run will herald a wave of developers rethinking how to transition their titles to mobile, hopefully making it so we can all live in a world free of dodgy virtual d-pads. I imagine, though, that natural simplicity and finesse of Rayman Jungle Run will just lead to loads more games that are a lot like Rayman Jungle Run.

Folkene fra Pasta Games gør Ubisofts nyklassiker ære, og savner du et farverigt og udfordrende platformspil til mobilen, er Rayman Jungle Run noget nær det ypperste. Bravo.

While most players will blitz through the main game’s 36 levels in a couple of hours, there’s longevity (and much frustration) in collecting all of the firefly-like Lums in a stage. Meanwhile, The Land Of The Dead levels unlocked along the way will be a source of near-constant fury until that magical, giddying moment where neither memory nor fingers let you down and you zip past the goal. The App Store hardly lacks platform games, of course, but few are so finely executed, so close in spirit to their 16bit forebears, as this.
