It's a bittersweet end for this all-too brief alpine adventure. Another five or so levels would make this a mobile must-have, but for now Namco's return to the slopes is merely a tantalising glimpse of the super-sleek action it could and should have served up in a far bulkier package from the off.
Overall, Alpine Racer is a solid game. My main quibble is that the depth (3 selectable characters, 4 tracks, no multiplayer, etc.) here doesn’t add up to the $6 price tag. If you’re a hardcore fan of the franchise, feel free to give Alpine Racer a shot. Otherwise, there are more attractive and meatier options available on the App Store.
Alpine racer is missed opportunity. There isn’t a huge amount of this genre of game on the iPhone, and Namco could have come out balls blazing with a great game. I do hope they have another crack at it with a sequel, because it does have some good points…but, I can’t overly recommend this game right now, as for the price you may feel a little short changed. If you must get some slope action right way, then I advise you try out the lite edition first.
