Definitely, Anomaly Defenders is more of a traditional tower defense game, and it is a well-worn genre. And I'm pretty sure that the game will feel more special to those familiar with Anomaly already because it uses so much of the language of previous games. So, this is either just a good-looking deep tower defense game with 24 challenging missions, or a love letter to fans who asked "what if?" And 11 bit Studios delivered.

Sure, it's another tower defence game, but Anomaly Defenders is one of the deepest - and prettiest - TD experiences we've played in ages.

While Anomaly Defenders might not be a dramatic change for the genre, it knows what to do and how to do it well. It’s also quite visually impressive, demonstrating how far we’ve come on iOS devices. It’s a fine conclusion to a highly enjoyable series.

It might start out a little sluggishly, but when Anomaly Defenders reveals the full extent of its strategy, you can't help but be sucked in.

Anomaly Defenders ($4.99, Universal) looks amazing, and has a great pedigree, but the gameplay execution comes up lacking. It’s worth considering depending on your affinity for the Anomaly series, but even then it loses what makes it good, while adding nothing to an overdone genre.
