Description

Big Hero 6: Bot Fight is match-three puzzle game based on the 2014 animated movie Big Hero 6. The game consists of a series of battles, divided into groups of levels introduced by a story fragment presented in text. Many characters and elements from the movie are featured in the game. The protagonist is the 14-year-old robotics genius Hiro Hamada and it takes place in the futuristic fictional city of San Fransokyo. By taking his robots into battles he earns new ones, currencies and parts to assemble a team of robots and upgrade and evolve them. Later on several other heroes become available.

A team of robots is selected and managed to go into battle, each with different statistics and powers. The top part of the screen shows the enemies that usually come in multiple waves. The 7x6 board is filled with different types of power cells. By creating matches with power cells the robots are powered and attack. There are five types of power cells with a rock-paper-scissors system for strengths and vulnerabilities and they also correspond with the colour of the robots. The three basic power cells are thermal (red), bio (green) and hydro (blue). Two additional power cells solar (yellow) and magnetic (purple) are vulnerable to each other. Enemies attack in turns and each match reduces the enemies' turn timer until they get to attack.

Matches are done by swapping cells horizontally and vertically. A match consists of at least three power cells, in a straight horizontal or vertical uninterrupted line. Matches of four create hyper power cells that can clear a row or column. A super power cell, through a match of five, removes all cells of a specific type by swapping one. A match often leads to combos and special matches such as T-shapes are rewarded with turbo power cells. Special power cells can be combined with each other for a devastating effect. There are also hearts and when these are matched they restore HP. Other game elements include chargeable abilities for the robots, hero abilities, and having an ally, based on a random online player, join the battle. Enemies will often mess with the field to remove the cells they are vulnerable to and the player needs to create a team that can use the most powerful cells for the situation.

Both the hero and the bots level up. After a battle new bots and parts are often won. Bots can be upgraded and parts are used to evolve them in a more powerful version. Redundant bots can be sold and in some cases it is possible to fuse a bot into another one to create a more powerful version. Playing with allies or friends provides ally points that can be spent at the Ally Lucky Cat for a chance to win a rare bot. Next to the main missions there are temporary and long-running events.

The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases. Next to the basic currency earned during battles to upgrade bots, prisms are the premium one. They can be used to buy power-ups or be spent at the Ally Lucky Cat. It is also possible to buy bundles, power-ups, restore energy, and acquire additional bot and friend slots. The game uses an energy/stamina system where each battle consumes energy. It regenerates slowly, but can also be refilled by spending money.
