Jack is just your average teenager living in a small town with his father. One day, however, mysterious people show up looking for some magic emblems belonging to three chosen families. What Jack's father has kept from Jack, is that they are one of these families, and that the emblems are of great importance to the survival of the world they live in. Jack's father urges Jack to deliver an urgent message to the Sage in the next town over, and that's where Jack's adventure starts and with it, the fate of the world rests on his (and his friends') shoulders...

Dawn of Magic plays like a traditional turn-based jRPG seen from a top-down perspective. Characters level up and earn gold and random equipment by engaging enemies in battle. The battles play out very similar to RPGs of the 16-bit era, where the player party and the enemies take turns using attacks, magic, defend and more. There are no random encounters in the game. All enemies can be seen in the overworld, and they are represented by little floating blue flames who move around in random patterns.

Aside from using traditional means of slaying the enemies using weapons, there are also magic crystals to either buy or find hidden in the world. Any crystal can be equipped to any character, and they all carry specific statistics and magic types which boosts the character wearing them and grands magics such as fire balls and more. The party starts with a set number of slots allocated for crystals per character, but more can be purchased over the course of the game.

All of the characters also have 100 action points which they can use during battle to unleash heavier attacks, heal or add boosting effects to the party. The points will replenish automatically as the characters use normal attacks in battle or if they see a healer.

The game uses in-app purchases as well as a promotional system to earn extra gold by watching video trailers for other games.
