Appletell (Apr 14, 2013)
As mentioned in other articles here at AppleTell, the resurgence of the old 16 bit games of the early ’90s is a welcome enough sight. It’s fun to be able to play some of the old games on a new, portable platform. I would appreciate it more if the developers would take advantage of the improved hardware and bring the graphics and the sounds up to date, but Duke Nukem 2 for iPhone is true to the original and not a bad game. The controls were a bit touchy and it seemed like the sound wasn’t keeping up at points, but it is still Duke—still fun.
App Spy (Apr 08, 2013)
Duke Nukem 2 was an addictive, mindless side-scrolling action title, but we'd be lying if we said it has aged well. If you can look beyond the chunky graphics; the old school soundtrack; and the pedestrian action gameplay, the nostalgia might just be able to keep you interested long enough to complete the game.
Pocket Gamer UK (Apr 08, 2013)
Despite some enduringly fresh touches, Duke Nukem II hasn't aged particularly well, with poor virtual controls and dated gameplay threatening to tarnish memories of the original.
3rd Strike (May 13, 2013)
Clunky controls and graphical issues keep this game from reaching it’s full potential. My advice: Good Old Games -among others- offers the original PC and Mac version with support for modern computers. Splurge on that one.
TouchGen (Apr 14, 2013)
There are much better platformers available on iOS. If you are hungering for retro platformers, go check out the Wii Virtual Console. Classic doesn’t always imply quality, and Duke Nukem II’s 20th Anniversary is perhaps an anniversary best left unnoticed.
Digital Spy (Apr 16, 2013)
Instead, nostalgic gamers might be best served to leave Duke Nukem 2 in their memories rather than their iPhones.
