If you are a fan of sandbox action games, and you can get over the steep current price, then this is a great buy and will keep you entertained for hours.
GameSpot (Oct 06, 2009)
Overall, Gangstar is an amazing accomplishment on iDevices. It's a blast to play, taking all the best parts of the GTA games and condensing them into a completely workable portable experience.
Thunderbolt Games (Jan 24, 2010)
As hard as it may be to imagine, Gangstar works exceedingly well given the platform and its set of strict limitations. Stretching the platform to the limit, it delivers about what you’d expect from any handheld Grand Theft Auto game, in a very similar fashion. I won’t debate that the idea’s unoriginal or at least derivative, as a whole, but its definitely a good early conversion of the sandbox formula onto the iPhone.

Gangstar: West Coast Hustle will have you ev-everyday hustlin' with its polished story-driven gameplay and slick 3D graphics
Macworld (2009)
Gangstar is a truly impressive game that’s well worth its $7 price tag. If you have a first generation device, be prepared to have to do a restart before playing each time to ensure smooth gameplay.

The Guardian (Sep 11, 2009)
Despite its great looks, Gameloft could surely have delivered a more satisfying game if they'd stuck to 2D and paid a little more attention to gameplay and storyline. Yet for it's tiny price, Gangstar: West Coast Hustle is undoubtedly a great stop-gap for users awaiting the forthcoming release of Chinatown Wards for iPhone/iTouch - a 2D game which promises to be much closer to the true GTA experience.
