Touch Arcade (Mar 13, 2013)
I won't spoil it, but the game even has a plot of sorts told through a in-game faux Twitter feed called "Byrdr." There's even an ending to work towards, which then unlocks an endless mode where you can compete for high scores. Ridiculous Fishing is such a complete package that it's an effortless recommendation. It totally captures that gameplay niche of a game you can load up and play for a few minutes while providing a feel of progression that also makes the title suitable for substantially longer play sessions- Especially once you start to discover some of its secrets and other particularly effective techniques for maximizing your score.

Ridiculous Fishing, Vlambeer's fishing (with guns!) game has been a long time in the works thanks to drama over a clone, but it's finally here and it's spectacular.
MacLife (Mar 14, 2013)
Bolstered by the endless mode that unlocks later on, it makes for a exuberant experience that continues to delight for hours and days and potentially weeks. Even with the breezy concept and brief play sessions, Ridiculous Fishing takes a little while to truly get its hook into you – but once it does, you'll be happily ensnared by one of the most purely entertaining iOS games to date.

The existence of a clone clearly gave Vlambeer and company something to prove. In the end, it's to the benefit of the game that this happened. Not only is Ridiculous Fishing better than it probably would have been without such motivation, it has a built-in counterpoint to contrast against. It illustrates that there's no better way to see how original a game is than to look at its copy.

Ingeniously designed, continuously compelling, painstakingly crafted, dripping with personality, packed with content -- I like everything about Ridiculous Fishing.

Little flourishes post-game menus and the store design will have you feeling like you’re playing the coolest theme park midway game around. And in a review culture where criminally little gets said about music, it’s enough to say that Suhrke’s genius soundtrack will be hard to top in its level of detail and creativity anywhere else this year (that isn’t another one of his own soundtracks). Major bonus points go to the way each relaxing sea ditty plays backwards as your line ascends to form an entirely different, but equally listenable mini-track.

It's been a long and frustrating journey for Vlambeer to bring Ridiculous Fishing to the market, but for gamers it's certainly been well worth the wait. Let's hope the reward for the developers is success on the App Store, and that this particular fisherman's tale has a very happy ending.

Ridiculous Fishing may have a strange premise, but give it half an hour and it blossoms into one of the most innovative, well-balanced, and addictive games of the year

Ridiculous Fishing puts a smile on my face every single time I reach the climactic moment my gigantic haul of fish are flung into the air and the cartoony slaughter begins. Plenty of secrets, extras and upgrades provide several hours of ridiculous fun. Still, the game is still ultimately a polished arcade time-killer – don’t look at its gorgeous artwork and listen to the wonderful soundtrack and expect something more.
Thunderbolt Games (Apr 18, 2013)
Overall, though, it’s hard to be negative about a game as good-natured (wanton animal slaughter aside) and well-packaged as this. It may lack substance in the long-term, but it provides an experience which is admirably oriented towards pure intuitive fun, presented in a way which is great to look at and humorous in tone. Many other titles would charge the full asking price of Ridiculous Fishing for only a fraction of its content, making this a stand out game in a heavily saturated market.
