DescriptionSpider-Bot is a mobile game as a tie-in to the PC / console title Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The gameplay is entirely different as the player controls a Spider-Bot, an intelligence gathering robot owned by the Fourth Echelon organization. It is however not present in the main Blacklist game as a drone and also is not mentioned. In around 48 missions, shown from a top-down view, the bot usually has to navigate an environment, avoid detection of cameras and guards, intercept/disable scientists and escape without being captured.
Movement is done with a virtual D-Pad and double tapping zooms in. There are sometimes drones that can be destroyed by luring them into laser traps. Some more action-heavy parts play like a variant of Pac-Man as the bot quickly moves through a maze, collecting lots of pieces of intel while avoiding drones. Every fifth mission is a fast one.
The game was first released for iOS. After the initial release the game was updated in July 2013 with the introduction of the Stealth-Bot in new missions. This robot is able to cloak itself, can stun targets and there is more variety in the missions as they are slower and require a more tactical approach. There is a cloak icon in the bottom right corner than turns the bot invisible. It is activated by holding the icon down, but there is a limited amount of energy and it needs some time to recharge. Terminals in the environment can be hacked, for instance to disable cameras and motion detectors.
The game was updated once more in August 2013 with the addition of the Strike-Bot and the title then also became available for Android. The Strike-Bot is used in a separate mode with endless waves of enemies that gradually become stronger. It is played in larger environment as an action based twin sticker shooter with virtual D-Pads on both sides of the screen. Sometimes floors become red and energized and then they need to be avoided. Small bits of energy are collected to power up the weapon. There are temporary power-ups that for instance turn the robot into a ball that dashes to destroy.
The mobile currency earned in this game can be used to unlock Alpha Goggles and Alpha Boots in the main Blacklist title after syncing the game with a Uplay account. They provide colorized thermal vision and increased protection against damage respectively.
