Far Cry 2
- Far Cry 2 (2008 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows)
Description
Far Cry 2 is an adaptation for mobile devices of the main Far Cry 2 game. The story is also similar as the player controls a mercenary in the middle of a civil war conflict in Africa. At the start of the game the player can choose between three mercenaries: Marty Alencar, Andre Hyppolite and Josip Idromeno, only different in their appearance. The main goal is to kill The Jackal, a weapons dealer who is destabilizing the war. Looking for information, the mercenary completes missions for both factions, the UFLL (United Front for Liberation and Labour) and the APR (Alliance for Popular Resistance).
The character is shown from an elevated, almost top-down view with run-and-gun gameplay. The character can be moved in eight directions and also fires in the direction he is looking. There are different types of weapons such as a regular revolver, an AK-47 and a sniper rifle and it is possible to switch between them during missions. The powerful weapons have a limited amount of ammo. The game uses a cover system where the character uses obstacles for cover automatically when nearby, limiting the damage. It is also possible to vault over objects, sneak up on enemies and take them out silently with a knife. The mercenary can throw Molotov cocktails as well. There are vertically scrolling sections riding on a motorcycle, running around with a flame thrower, and also stealth missions involving silent kills and avoiding spotlights. Missions are generally split up in smaller sections with checkpoints. There is an unlimited amount of lives. Health, shown through a coloured circle surrounding the character, regenerates automatically when avoiding enemy fire. A radar in the top right corner can be used to track enemies and there is also a section where mines need to be avoided by tracking their location.
The game has a certain amount of freedom as there are different villages where it is possible to move around freely, talking to characters and doing small jobs. Each village has about three missions that can be tackled in any order by selecting them from a bulletin board. There are also shops where diamonds, the reward for completing missions, can be used to buy new weapons and additional ammo. Ammo and items can also be found in levels. Some journals are hidden in missions and these can be sold in villages for diamonds.
