James Cameron's Avatar is a game based on the science fiction film with the same name. It's one of two Avatar mobile games and is targeted towards smartphones while the other is a 2D platformer for feature phones. The game takes place twenty years before the film but has a similar narrative. The player is in control of the very first avatar who on his first mission gets lost in the Pandora jungles where he comes into contact with the Na'vi tribe which he gets increasingly sympathetic to.
The game is a three dimensional action game played from a third person perspective. It involves both platform jumping and combat with the various hostile creatures of Pandora. Similar to Ubisoft's Prince of Persia games the avatar can climb walls, hang from ledges and swing between vines. The game is mainly played from a behind view but occasionally it changes to a side or birds eye view. In battles a staff can be used in close combat while a bow or an assault rifle can be equipped to take out enemies from a distance. Additionally a special ability called Spirit of Eywa can be activated once unlocked and whose power increases when enough wisps have been collected. The game is initially linear but has more open areas in the later sections which the player gets to explore while performing quests for Na'vi villagers. There are also flying levels where the player gets to ride a banshee and combat enemy drones.
