Description
Jellyboom is the first game from the Singaporean publisher/developer Boomzap. It's similar to a number of Japanese falling block games, like
Puyo Puyo and
Super Puzzle Fighter. The story of the game is that "Communist candies from outer space" are invading the earth, and as a member of the US FDA "Only you have the knowledge of candies and federal labeling guidelines" to stop the jelly menace.
The player must arrange a number of falling jellies into groups, forming "megajellies" for extra points. When the special detonators fall, any blocks of that colour which are in contact with it will be destroyed. If the jellies reach the top of the screen, they take over the world.
There are three game modes. In Survival mode you simply play on for as long as you can. Arcade and Puzzle modes require you to clear set numbers of each colour of jellies. The difference between them is that Puzzle mode has pre-set groupings to deal with.
Various specials add variety to the levels. Frozen tiles take a specified number of turns to thaw, deep-frozen tiles thaw into a random colour, bombs turn all nearly tiles into their colour, and there are also tiles to remove all jellies of a certain colour. Also look out for blockers, slicers and paint bombs.
