DescriptionJourney to the Center of the Earth Adventure is a treasure hunt text adventure game loosely inspired by the Jules Verne's book of the same name. The player starts on a malfunctioning ship and must explore the innards of the earth in order to repair the space ship. Giant bugs are everywhere and must be avoided or the player will die.
Controls in the game are similar to other early text adventures with a limited vocabulary, players can move in compass directions and interact with some of the objects that are described verbally. Performing correct actions earns the player points to a maximum of 175 on completion of the game.

Greg HassettGreg Hassett, the game's author, was only 12 years old when he wrote Journey to the Center of the Earth Adventure, his first game. He went on to write several more text adventures in BASIC, before moving on to writing in Z-80 machine language.

Thematic InconsistencyJourney to the Center of the Earth Adventure is set deep underground, but includes many rooms that don't fit in. The Captain 80 Book of BASIC Adventures comments on this, saying:
Not so with Journey to the Center of the Earth, where coke machines and plush rooms have no thematic explanations. Of course, Journey was Greg Hassett's first work and his knowledge of the laws of theme increased as he matured in both programming skill and writing prowess.
