Description
Kicker Fussballmanager 2, similar to its
predecessor, is a managerial soccer simulation where the player coaches a team and is responsible for its athletic and financial success. In comparison to similar German games like
Bundesliga Manager, the financial part is driven back and the focus lies on the team. Nonetheless, there are multiple financial aspects to pay attention to: sponsorships, entrance fees, expanding the stadium and of course buying and selling players (now the negotiations are turn-based). The balance sheet got overhauled to provide a better overview.
The match presentation got a graphical revision but still works the same way as before: it is calculated and displayed in real-time and the player has a lot of tactical possibilities during the game, like substituting players or even changing the tactic completely. These changes are directly visible in the match presentation. In contrast to the
Championship Manager series, which has a similar premise, the match is shown in an isometric perspective. Not only is the ongoing game calculated in real-time, all parallel matches are too. The player has even the possibility to arrange windows of varied sizes on the monitor (where they can follow other matches) or switch completely to another match.
The other two main changes are in the menus and the tactics. Now the player has the opportunity to create their own moves. To do so, they place players on the planning screen and assign step by step the ball possession. When the original position is recognised during the match, the move is carried out automatically. The menu got changed so that every game function can be reached within two clicks. The players no longer have a rating from 1 to 999 but from 0,1 to 9,99, and exceptional gifted players can go up to 12. This rating consists of the players' condition, technique and intelligence which are further influenced by a wide variety of skills and their current form.
One main motivational factor is the own manager rating. When certain criteria are met, the player gains (or loses) a level.
The editor is not restricted to changing the (not licensed) names of the teams and players, it also allows to change all player data and the structure of leagues and cup championships.
The game features 16 European leagues, including 8 German ones.
