Description

Rubble Without a Cause is a second chapter in King's Quest story which plays through flashbacks as, now old, King Graham tells the stories of his adventures to his grandchildren. While the first chapter focused on the quest of becoming the royal knight and next king, this chapter fast forwards to the point when Graham is already a king and has to deal with things of the court. One rainy day he ventures in the town market and gets kidnapped by the goblins. And not just him, but all the townsfolk. This entire chapter tells a story of King Graham's time in prison. But to his luck, he wasn't as restricted as the others.

One day, the goblins suddenly stopped giving the daily ration of porridge for nutrition and the prisoners, including King Graham, the protagonist, started to slowly lose energy and starve. As luck would have it, the goblins still fed the giant rat they held in one of the cells, but feeding it turned dangerous so they tasked Graham with feeding it. And thus, every day the good king ended up with a new pork chop in his hand. As prisoners cannot be sustained for too long before food, the player can choose who to give it to before it is too late and they leave on a stretcher.

During your daily rat feeding duties you'll be able to freely walk around the caves although some of the areas will require you to gain strength by eating yourself. Other people will be able to help you with certain things, but they won't be able to do anything while in their weak state. Eventually, the player will find out that these goblins are absolutely crazy for stories and fairytales, but before you get a chance to talk to their king, you'll have to fight them, outsmart them, and brew potions to aid you on your quest. Gameplay in chapter two of the story is mainly identical, except now the player can skip through both new and old dialogues without having to watch the entire cut-scene. The game doesn't have manual save feature and autosaves at certain points in the game from which it can be continued, or start anew by resetting the progress.
