Commodore 64Zzap! (Sep, 1986)
This is fun -- a nice variant on the beat em up theme with six bashing games and two other games thrown in for good measure. The multiload system is surprisingly fast and very easy to use, which makes a nice change from the usual 'wait half an hour' jobs. Although the events have eight moves as standard, each has its own sets of thrusts, parries etc, and once mastered they all have great potential for a really good fight. The defending and attacking moves all work well and it's easy to become very involved with the game when you're fighting. The graphics are great, with brilliantly animated sprites and some nice mediaeval backdrops. The eight tunes are all pretty good, and the sound effects are nicely atmospheric, with clanks and clinks as you bash your opponent's armour. I enjoyed playing this and strongly recommend you to have a look at it.

It is the detail of the graphics that makes Knight Games stand out from the other combat games. Each event features superb animation on incredible backdrops with each screen completed by the wax that dribbles down the burning candle.

Amstrad CPCAmstrad Action (Sep, 1986)
It's a shame there isn't more variety to the gameplay but the graphics, music and humour will keep you interested for a while - and beating the tar out of someone in a two player game can be most satisfying. Fun for a while but will soon lose your interest.

In all, Knight Games is a worthy addition to the beat 'em ups, it's just not up there at the top. A pity because I feel it could have been with a few adjustments and a bit more imagination. Did English and Jon consider the possibility of a joust for example? That would have been brilliant.

Commodore 64Happy Computer (Sep, 1986)
Hier ist die Alternative zu den erfolgreichen Sportspielen Marke »Summer Games«: Aus England stammen die originellen »Knight Garnes« (Ritterspiele), bei denen man in die gute alte Zeit des Mittelalters versetzt wird.

Commodore 64Computer and Video Games (CVG) (Oct, 1989)
Not actually bad, but Knight Games is too boring to be fun for very long. Three quid is all it's worth.

Gameplay is the same as the C64 version, only slightly slower and with more blotchy graphics. The high-pitched warbly music will give you headache, too.

DOSThe Games Machine (UK) (May, 1989)
Out of the eight events on offer all but two take the form of one-on-one combat, repetition follows and it's left to the crossbow and archery events to provide anything more than short term appeal.

DOSPower Play (Apr, 1989)

Commodore 64Computer Gaming World (CGW) (Oct, 1988)
Knight Games will probably prove more popular with the younger teen set because of its ease of play, rousing score (the box calls it Medieval "Rock Music" and it sounds good to this reviewer's ears), and the multitude of weapon choices available. Of course, adult fans of action games will want to try it for some of the same reasons. Knight Games is proof positive that budgetware doesn't have to be garbageware.
