ColecoVisionElectronic Fun with Computers & Games (Aug, 1983)
In Looping you control a plane (that looks a lot like one of the spaceships from The Jetsons) which must go around a fantasy world from left to right in order to reach a box labeled END. But why, you might be asking yourself at this time, is the game called Looping? Because of the unique way in which you make directional changes. You don't simply turn your biplane by moving your joystick left or right. No. You've got to loop to go in the other direction. You loop the plane either clockwise or counter-clockwise and when you stop, you fly off in the direction you're facing.

Looping ist im Grunde ein einfaches Spiel ohne allzu viel technischen Aufwand. Das ungewohnte Umgehen mit dem Joystick-Steuerknüppel ist eine ständige Herausforderung für sicher viele Spieler. Auch wenn ein wenig geschossen wird: Ein sympathisches Spiel.

Looping for the ColecoVision is a very good translation of the Arcade game; unfortunately, the Arcade game is not much fun to begin with.

To be honest, this game didn't do much for me. It's a side scrolling airplane shooter where you can fly forwards, upside-down, and perform loops (hence the name). Your initial goal is to destroy a few missiles on the ground below while being attacked by hot air balloons. Some missiles are protected by buildings that you'll need to break through. Once the missiles are destroyed, you must navigate a series of narrow mazes while shooting the occasional obstacle. During this part of the game you'll hear music that wouldn't be so annoying if it weren't so freakin' LOUD! If you reach the end this section, you're off to the next stage, which is slightly faster. The graphics aren't bad; there's plenty of detail and color. Looping has other problems, however. The control is super-sensitive; hardly providing the precision required to navigate the tight, narrow mazes. The collision detection is poor, and the game feels sloppy in general. Most importantly, it's just not much fun.
